Sig Sauer question

I'm at it again. In trouble lol! I find myself the proud owner of a Sig P226R 9mm that has a seperate slide, bbl. and spring in .357 Sig calibre. This gun is an alloy frame I think. Would the .357 Sig calibre be too much for this gun? I think I would be happier with a stainless steel frame with such a hot round. I have no brass, dies etc for this round anyway.

I guess I went off half cocked! They sell this gun in that calibre. I am no fan of big kick, big bang. Even the .44 Mag I have is too much. I have a .454, doubt I have shot 10 rounds in .454. These are big heavy guns as well, both with scopes on them and long bbls.

OP, I think you will be pleasantly surprised. The only down side of the 357sig is the cost of ammo if buying factory fresh. It is an amazingly accurate round and makes quite the boom! While some choose to neck down 40SW cases to 357sig for reloading, and I have done so in past, I much prefer the actual 357sig cases as they provide slightly longer necks providing better neck tension. In any case, the caliber is fun to shoot.

Isn't the 357sig pretty close to 357mag in power? So in a semi, it should recoil slightly less than a similarly weighted 357mag?

I would think reloading would make that far more tolerable.

Box of 50 cost $31 at local store. He has 8 boxes. I assume that is 50 rounds per box. Kind of odd ball to reload. Takes a different projectile. Smaller than 38/357 and different weight as well. Not going to bother reloading 357 Sig. Not going to shoot that much only have one gun in that calibre. Keep the brass though.

Because it's a bottleneck cartridge it needs to be trimmed, so it's still a pain. I've considered using .40 cases to see if that will alleviate the need.

I've owned a couple of .357 SIG pistols including a P226 that had both .40 and .357 barrels. As far as recoil, they were quite pleasant to shoot, with neither having punishing recoil. Here's a quick video I put together a few years ago showing the recoil comparison between the two.

I have the same gun with uppers in 22, 9mm, 40, and 357 Sig. No issues. - dan

Is your 9mm factory or an aftermarket barrel? I’ve been reading online that you can’t use the same upper (40 and 357 Sig) with a 9mm factory barrel. It won’t fit and/or won’t lock up properly? While using the right recoil spring for the 9mm

All factory uppers and barrels. - dan

I think that is the same as mine. Cost like $500 each. Swapping bbls. doesn't work as far as I can tell with this gun.
