I've shot a few, and I've been wanting to buy a used one for awhile, but I always seem to find something else to buy... SIG P239, 9mm AR-15, etc.
My only real concern with them is... o.k. two things:
(1) the plastic recoil guide rod seems to wear down, and one guy whose SP2022 I was trying, the plastic "nub" actually broke off on the guide rod and he glued it back on until SIG sent him a replacement?

(2) The SP2022 is not in the 2008 SIG catalog (U.S.A. anyway). It was in the 2007 catalog, but SIG has shifted its focus to three things: (1) The P250, (2) The 556 rifle, and (3) the "Classic" SIG line-up... (i.e., everything else that built up the company: P220, 226, 229, 232, and 239). Basically in that order, as far as I can tell. The 1911's are still in there .. but...
So... is the SP2022 going to be around long term? No it isn't. The gun is already probably orphaned. Parts and accessories will be available for years to come, but not likely for a lot of years. Think, "buying a holster for an HK P9S". Possible, but difficult.
My 10 minute side by side comparison of the SP2022 and one of P229's was quite favorable. The 229 groups aren't some the better ones I've shot with it, but the SP2022 I found to be very, very shootable.
P229... same ammo, same shooter, same distance, same weather... the piece of paper right next to the previous one, on the same target stand:
Some of the best groups I've shot with the 229's (from other times):
Good groupings with the 239:
So, yah... the SP2022 holds its own in the SIG tradition. I like the feel of the "classic" guns a bit more, and apparently so does everyone else, hence the dropping of the SP2022, but it is a good gun if you can get it at good price.
The SP2022 really seems like a polymer version of the "classic" SIG to me, whereas the P250 - although I haven't shot one yet - seems to clearly be designed to go head-to-head with GLOCK and the S&W M&P for that lower price-point, ultra simple one trigger pull gun market.
