Considering a Sig SP2022, 40 S&W for it's second strike capability, ability to accommodate smaller hands, the better than most double actions in an autoloader, very proven design/reliability as well as the ergonomics overall. Opinions from the gallery on this iether pro or con is welcome.

its their version of a polymer gun. it would be ranked as one of their "low end" models.
something to consider is the accessories for the pistol as well. How easy is it to find holsters and extra mags for a 2022? I dont know.
If you were to spend a little more and go with a 226 for example, you will have no problems finding anything you need.
I chose the 226 and am very pleased with it. I sold my berettas, walther and glock because the 226 was "all that and more".

Never owned one, but from what I know they are good, underrated guns. They are available in either DAO or traditional SA/DA, which is a big plus in my opinion (personally, I can't stand DAO).

I've shot a few, and I've been wanting to buy a used one for awhile, but I always seem to find something else to buy... SIG P239, 9mm AR-15, etc.

My only real concern with them is... o.k. two things:
(1) the plastic recoil guide rod seems to wear down, and one guy whose SP2022 I was trying, the plastic "nub" actually broke off on the guide rod and he glued it back on until SIG sent him a replacement?
(2) The SP2022 is not in the 2008 SIG catalog (U.S.A. anyway). It was in the 2007 catalog, but SIG has shifted its focus to three things: (1) The P250, (2) The 556 rifle, and (3) the "Classic" SIG line-up... (i.e., everything else that built up the company: P220, 226, 229, 232, and 239). Basically in that order, as far as I can tell. The 1911's are still in there .. but...

So... is the SP2022 going to be around long term? No it isn't. The gun is already probably orphaned. Parts and accessories will be available for years to come, but not likely for a lot of years. Think, "buying a holster for an HK P9S". Possible, but difficult.

My 10 minute side by side comparison of the SP2022 and one of P229's was quite favorable. The 229 groups aren't some the better ones I've shot with it, but the SP2022 I found to be very, very shootable.

P229... same ammo, same shooter, same distance, same weather... the piece of paper right next to the previous one, on the same target stand:

Some of the best groups I've shot with the 229's (from other times):

Good groupings with the 239:

So, yah... the SP2022 holds its own in the SIG tradition. I like the feel of the "classic" guns a bit more, and apparently so does everyone else, hence the dropping of the SP2022, but it is a good gun if you can get it at good price.

The SP2022 really seems like a polymer version of the "classic" SIG to me, whereas the P250 - although I haven't shot one yet - seems to clearly be designed to go head-to-head with GLOCK and the S&W M&P for that lower price-point, ultra simple one trigger pull gun market.

The BIGGEST pistol contract ever awarded was to the French Police and it was for 250,000 units!!! Not to mention that the US Army also uses it or the tank division. I don't think parts are going to be that hard to find, maybe just in our country :(

Yah, that is what I am afraid of with the SP2022 (and all guns, really)... getting parts in this country. Brownells has a full line of SIG Pro parts, but Brownells is now only shipping non State Department regulated items to Canada (tools, DVDs, etc.). Anything that attaches itself to a gun... your order will be cancelled (I've tried 3 times in the last few months :().

Numrich still ships to Canada, but they don't list much for the Sig Pros. I've been sort of stock-pilling 229 and 239 parts from them for the last little while. Every order I make I basically expect them to cancel it (i.e., they follow Brownell's lead and give up on exporting State Department regulated items). So far they haven't.

I know about the French contract, and the U.S. Army tank contract, but I agree with you that the existence of all those guns in service won't help out civillian end users in this country. If SIG has totally dropped SIG Pro from their line, will the Canadian distributors still be willing (or able) to bring in parts. For example, Questar is a SIG importer. They offer pretty much a full line of SIG products. All they have for SP2022 is mags and a sight adjustment tool. They are not even listing the guns themselves. Doesn't insprire a lot of confidence for SIG Pro owners, does it? And that is one year after the SP2022 was taken out of the SIG U.S.A. catalog.

Alternate Sig to Sig 2022

Wow!!!! Am I glad there's a wealth of info out there and my thanks to all who replied as NOW I'll no doubt take a second look at my previous other choices and yes the 226 or better does look more attractive. Now that leads me to my next question; which is the best choice among the refurbs' being marketed as my criteria is still pretty much the same, but I'm one to also take parts availablilty and longevity as an important factor in a gun purchase that I might some day have to rely on to protect family and home. What I don't like doing is paying that new price on anything if it can be had previously owned but not abused. Can the Sig refurbs' be relied on????????

There must be some other reason for this, guys on the Black Rifle page are getting Magpul CTR's from them. If your order is over $100 I can see it, that's the way the rules are written, but springs and small parts (pins, sights, magazines) etc. are exempt unless they cost more than $100 (or $500 depending on who you talk to).

That`s good news if some stuff is still getting through. My problem isn`t the $100 thing though, as I did some experimenting to try and figure out if there were any SIG parts that they would green light... a single magazine (10 round).. no... a single trigger bar... no... an 8 round 239 mag... no dice. No SIG part will get approved as far as I can tell. Some other guys have mentioned similar problems with other guns parts (Smith & Wesson, etc.). The last time Brownells worked for me for gun parts was early summer. I think something changed around the end of August.

Recently I have bought a SIG armourer`s tool, punch set, 3mm cup tip punch, SIG armourer`s DVD, etc., and all of that came very quickly no problem. It sucks because Brownells was such an awesome resource.

Hey, it sounds like you guys are having problems getting parts. I spoke with someone at Dave's Hunting and Sports in Lynden, WA and he said that he could export guns and parts. Guns at $150 for first gun and approx $79 for each one after that. He also, said he can do parts. Search Dave's Hunting and Sports or let me know if you have questions I can forward you the pricing sheet that was sent to me.

I bought M&P spare parts(incl. trigger bar) from Brownells 2 months ago. It arrived in 2 days for a shipping cost of < $5 :D

I am surprised that you are having problems importing spare parts(<$100)

Back to topic.

I like my sp2022, The wife doesn't like the trigger, says it's too heavy for her to break. Used to have some isssues with FTE's but once i got a new extractor put in, it's run like a champ.

There is a small issue with finding holsters, i found that ALOT of 226 leather holsters fit the frame very well. But the thumb snaps didn't always close, so ither you have to work in the leather, or mod it. I just bought a dropleg holster.
