I just installed the Tapco intrafuse stock on my sks and I am going to put on a new receiver cover with rail as well. I want to put some optics on there and would like some advice on what would be best. I would like to spend less than 100 bucks if I can but if I have to spend a bit more, so be it. I ma thinking of a red dot sight, suggestions? Also, should I mount it over the gas piston or on the receiver? I would think over the piston would hold zero better, no? But over the receiver would be easier to use?

Thoughts? What to buy? Help me spend my holiday money! :p

the scout scope mount is a good one. It replaces the rear sight leaf with a short rail. Unfortunately the mount itself is about $120. I had a Vortex Strikefire red dot on mine that works great with that setup. But vortex+scout mount=$295. Gas tube mounts will not hold zero on an SKS, there is too much play. For the rear cover, alot of poeple need to do a little grinding inside to get it to clear the bolt carrier, and Satain found a good way to help it hold zero after being removed. He put a business card under the set screws on one side and left them tight, then loosened the other side and slid out the business card to remove the rear cover. Reverse the steps for reassembly and he said it hols zero. This would be the least expensive for something that holds zero. Check out GP tactical, hes got a package deal with red dot/laser/flashlight and cover for $170, or you can buy the cover for $40 and add whatever optics you like. http://www.gptactical.com/c377998966.2.html
Pm if youre interested in the scout mount, mine is going up for sale now that my side mount is nearly done.

We will be offering another solution to this issue by the end of January for all you SKS lover's out there.

Glad to see that somebody is going after a untapped market. If your product is priced right for a $200.00 rifle and most of all it works there will be a #### load of money to be made. I think the cz/vz market has started to dry up for the people selling some of their overpriced tactical goodies. Looking forward to seeing your SKS product.

Choate scope mount is the way to go IMHO. The only trouble is that, unless you're good with a drill or drill press, I'd have a gunsmith mount the scope mount for you (4 holes need to be drilled and they've got to be inline with the bore).

I have noticed from your responses that you seem to be quite informed on the SKS market. Would you mind sharing with us some ideas that you might have on our SKS line and maybe even do some testing on our products?
If interested please PM.

I have been playing with the SKS's since the early 90's. The internet has given us a lot of products for the SKS, some work and some don't. I think you are on the right track with optic and sight mounts that work. I am right now close to getting a A2 style sight to work consistant, the biggest problem is getting it to look good as well. I have several SKS's that I use as test beds. I would be interested in testing your product.... PM sent

care to divulge a little info? Drill & tap, bolt on, over the reciever, scout style? I had a look at your site, looks like youve got some great products coming out. Its good to see new companies bringing new products to market. Pm inbound.

What we need is a relatively inexpensive picitinny rail set up that replaces the rear leaf sight. You then could mount any number of red dot sights on the gun.

Take Care

The only mount out there that is easy to install really works well, I have used it is the scout scopes mount, see the link. Maybe not cheap but it works. It does limit the type of optics you can use. For a red dot no problem. The nice thing about this mount you can remove the optic for cleaning and it retains zero. With the rail removed you still have open sights. Marstar does sell them in Canada.

with the ejection window mod, another mount like the choate would be great. I'm currently working on a mount like this but its a bit rocky having both a mangled SKS and mount :D the joys of buying used! And X2 on the scout mount, I dont think one could make it much better. But a drill and tap side mounted rail over bore centerline that allows use of the irons underneath a fullsize scope without sitting 8" above bore centerline is what my little mess is all about. A simple kit like that would be a hot seller.

I made 1 like this and would love to share my input with this new company, if they ask me. Here are some photo's that might help them out;

I cut the rail alittle shorter to allow the use of a red dot and make the rail not need to be removed for cleaning purposes;

Jesus Christ Joey, I am going to buy you a decent camera one day........not.

Thats a nice piece Satain. How is windage maintained/adjusted? Just a tight fit on the sight base? It looks simple to machine, could be the next great SKS accessory ;)

No windage needed as there is only 1 thou clearance on each side and there is a rear set screw for elevation zeroing.
As for a new camera...
We letz just say every time I am about to buy 1 there is a new firearm in the same price range that I just have to buy. Plus after the pumpkin shoot my 50 AE & 500 S&W reserve's are a little low :p

satain's mount is awsome i have one as well , well made piece fits great took only a few min to instal and uninstall as needed. my garbage ncstar microdot copy crapped out so i took the mount back off but i wont be getting rid of it anytime soon.:)

Satain- what was the original piece of "stock" for your rail mount. Was it just a piece of black rail stock modified to fit with holes drilled and bit milled here and there, or a complete mill job from a chunk of aluminum?

Made at my uncle's shop from a solid piece of metal. It's cool actually I make this drawing in autocad and put this piece of metal in this machine. Then boom! It's done, although I still have to drill and tap all the wholes and rummage around his shop for the trox screws. Who know's maybe this new manufacturing company will bum it from me and we can all get to use it. As uncle says, if he catches me making any more stuff in his shop he is going to make me a pair of cement shoes.
