Sight-In HELP!

Hello,

I just picked up a new savage 111fxcp the other day and it comes with a simmons scope (supposedly bore-sighted at the factory). Well I took it out the other day to do a final sight in and i found that it was WAY out... So i tried to bore sight it on my own but even with the windage and elevation as far down and left as it will go the target in the scope is STILL high and right of the bore-sighted target...

Am I doing something wrong or is there something up with my equipment... I'd like to see if anybody has ideas here before I go to my local gun smith.

Can you try sighting in shots at 25 yards ? It is a lot easier at a shorter distance to sight it in than at 100 yards or more.

I agree about turning the adjustments the right way. You would not be the first person to make that mistake.
 
Yes I have shot the rifle and yes i have tried turning the adjustments the other way... Turning them the right way does bring the cross hairs closer but like I said it is still high and right of the boresighted target... The only thing I can think of is if the scope is screwed or the mounts aren't on right...
 
If you have two piece mounts try switching them, this may bring it down. You could try a set of Leupold rings and mounts, they have windage adjustment build it. Checking the rings and mounts you already have is a no-brainer.
 
Forget the bore sighting and the bore sighting target. Go to the 25 yard line and fire the gun aimed dead center on the target, three times. See where it hits (the center of the group), and adjust accordingly. If there isn't enough travel in the scope, check your mounts and rings, and try again. You may need to replace something, but I would try this first. - dan

There is a chance the rings were mounted "off". but I thought the Salvages were fired tested at factory before leaving, I remember reading about the testing process but can't recall the details.
 
Make sure everything is screwed down tight as well. My first 2 shots with mine touched each other, then as my range session went on, I couldn't seem to hit the broad side of anything anymore. When I got home, I discovered my rings had come loose :redface:. They have since been replaced :cool:.
