Sight Inserts and Adjusting knobs ??

Knurled knobs are probably thumb screws to tighten a sight onto a rifle. The inserts look more like a spacer/washer that locked into a keyway on a shaft.
 
That is interesting and now I look at them again the sight post is quite short.
Now I really wonder what they are from/for :):):)
