I am building a new pistol for starting in IPSC this year and am looking for a recommendation as to what sights to use. I will be using a single stack 1911 style with iron sights ,now just which ones . I know FO sights are popular ,are they a good choice ? who's do you recommend?

Its a personal choice...

I'm OK with FO sights, but solid black are fine too. The thing with FO is if the fibre breaks its much worse than the minor gain of fibre.

Most of the greatest shooters have played around with everything and gone back to plain patridge style with a plain front blade. All black.

I like a relatively narrow front blade with about half the width of the blade of open space on each side of it in the rear notch. Too little open space actually makes it harder to centre the blade in the notch.

The solution is to try a bunch and get the one you like best.

Hi. How's the kid? Have fixed Millets on mine. They're not easily adjustable though. Big and easy to see, but the rear sight needs a mallet to adjust. I've been trying to figure out how to make the tool Brownell's sells for several years now. Gotta a plan, but no money. Cut square tubing, either dipped in that plastic stuff or a thin leather case and a screw.

My opinion... Dawson Precision Fibre Optic front sight with a Bo-Mar adjustible rear sight.
Don't put too much worry in breaking the fibre optic... the trick is to make sure there is absolutely no "play" in the fibre optic rod when you install it. If it is loose you will break it. I have never lost a fibre optic rod... I usually end up installing a new rod (because they get dingey after a few thousand rounds) befoe I have ever had one break.:)
