Sighting in a new barrel, POI is almost 2 inches to the right at 200 yards and I have ran out of left direction adjustment on my scope.
I am using zee rings with inserts. Can someone please tell me what size inserts I should use 5, 10, or 20 thou to get my 4200 back in the middle of its adjustment?

Also would I insert the offset on the front ring, left hand side minus and right hand side plus?

Trigonometry is not my strong point. I think we need the distance between the rings eh?
Thanks.

Try this link. It should work just as well with windage as elevation.

Also, I believe the offsets should be used in pairs. If you offset the front of the scope you should also offset the rear the same amount in the opposite direction. Otherwise the scope would want to travel straight through the 0 offset rings and "bend" to accomodate the front offsets.

I have installed offset rings on my rifle and have a -10 on the front bottom and +10 on the rear bottom to keep the angle consistant.

OK there is only 20 MOA in that scope. I would be inclined to say use the +10 and -10 in the front not that I am 1 with the ZEE ring but from my guesstimate this will give you about 11 minutes of windage left and 9 minutes of windage right. Anyone whose force in the zee ring is stronger than this padawan learner feel free to jump in.

Suputin, yeah its strange eh? I had this scope and bases on the gun for a year and the rings for at least a few range trips before switching the barrel. I have never actually tested the full windage of the scope but I believe I had at least 3 inches left at 100yards.

The only things I can think of are either the rings have twisted somehow. The scope has never been knocked OR
The problem has always been there and the fact that the previous barrel was 4 inches shorter and my lack of testing I did not discover it?

I suppose I could try different rings and scope.

All comments/thoughts appreciated.

EDIT: everything is tight.

I have the 20's in the back and the 10's in the front.
The plus/minus pairing must be with the corresponding number.
You get vertical upward movement by putting the plus insert in the bottom of the rear rings or the top of the front rings. You can also get horizontal movement by rotating the insert 90 degrees within the rings. It might take some time to achieve the desired results . . . especially if you are trying to achieve the correct windage adjustment.

When using z inserts thinking of pushing the scope toward point of impact or "chasing" point of impact. If your impacting right of point of aim then you want to turn the scope toward the right so front rings = +10 half on left and -10 half on right and/or rear ring = -10 half on left and + 10 half on right. This is for windage correction only. You do not have to use offsets on front a rear, you can offset one and leave the other with 0 and 0

I would push the bell towards the direction of impact but only use the 10 thou shim.

When you look at the bushings, they have a number on the bottom +10 on the left side of the ring and -10 on the right side. The split will be on the top and bottom of the scope.

Try and see what you get. Nothing worse, then over correcting.

Jerry,
I'l try the 10 thou that seems to be the common estimate in the thread. I just found out that Le Baron sells a pack with the 5, 10 and 20 thou included for $16. So I'l get that and I can play around. Of course they do not have any in stock. :(

I tell ya since I started trying to improve my shooting I never seem to get any consistant practice. I always seem to be playing with different bullets, powders, primers, scopes, rings, barrels, triggers, bedding or something. I do not think I have had more than 2 consequetive range trips where all my gear has been the same in the last 18 months. :D

It will take some time to find the receipe you like. But once it is done, you will have the process forever.

If you would like set of shims, let me know. I have them onhand and same price.

Thanks,

Jerry
