Hey boys,

I bought a T3 lite Tikka in 7mm Rem Mag with a Bushnell Banner scope, great gun ok scope right?

My gunsmith boresighted it in for me:p But when I went to the range my first 3 shots were like 2 feet off!!!

This was at 30 yds, I moved back to 100 yds to see if there would be a difference , a target 24 inches by 24 inches had 6 holes punched in but they were all over the place. I took the gun back to have it boresighted again to see if maybe I bumped it off or something but the bloody thing was bore sighted on the money:confused:

175 gr. Federal vital shok is what I used. Am I doing something wrong here??????????:(

Thanks

HHB

I guess the fella checked the mounts secure, the only other thing may be the action screws loose, and or the barrel is touching the stock in one or more spots, which will cause the poor results. :) Oh and hang onto that baby when shooting, the recoil may also have an effect.

Boresighting is a method to get you on paper, you have to fine tune yourself.
As for being all over the paper again boresighting the rifle will not solve the problem.

Why not sight the rifle in yourself. Shoot at a target at 50 yards and find your POI then go to 100 yards and adjust your POI from there.

If you were 2 feet off at 30 yards, you shouldn't even hit the target at 100 yards. The fact that you are on the paper at 100 yards shows that the boresight is not the issue, and you should be able to sight the gun in properly at that distance.Since you are all over the paper, you obviously have other problems.

There is a reason why scopes have windage and elevation adjustments. This is the good time to use them. :D
Boresighting is one way of getting your hits to the target, but that does not mean to say, you will be dead on the target all the time without fine tuning your sigght with your rifle. Dont blame the bore sight. Do some windage & elevation adjustment starting from 25 yds. If you dont see an improvement on your hits.... something is wrong, but as your rifle get accurate hits from 25-yds go further... 50 yds up then maybe 70 yds to 100 yds... The key thing is start close to the target to get a bench mark for your rifle and sight making windage and elevation adjustments before you blame anything else.:) :)
IMHO, I will get a decent hit out of 5-10 rounds from 25 yds no matter how crappy the load is... you do not measure the rifle round load accuracy from 25-30 yds distance.

You are already on the paper at 100 yards,so don't go backwards by moving closer. The windage and elevation adjustments are calibrated for 100 yards,so simply move them in the direction that you want the point of impact to move, and the amount that you want the point of impact to move.

A quick way is after the shot, hold the reticle on point of aim, you should see the bullet hole in the target. Then move the windage over to the hole, then the elevation to the hole , all while looking at the reticle moving through the scope(hold the gun steady when you do this, its easy).
After that is done , shoot again, the rifle should be pretty darn close to where your aiming . Example , your now 1/2 inch low , and 4 inches right.
Move the elevation up , counter clockwise 2 clicks, (for a 1/4 click @ 100 meter scope setup) and the windage left 16 clicks ( clockwise) :)

Not to suggest this is your problem, but...

... a friend bought a Bushnell Banner last year for his 25-06. It was mounted and boresighted by a gunsmith in Winnipeg. He brought it out to sight it in. No matter what we tried we could not get it to group. Just when we thought we had it grouping, it started spraying bullets all over a 36x36inch paper. Turns out the scope was defective right out of the box.

Rule of thumb. If you pay less than $250 for a New scope, the windage and elevation knobs are mainly just decoration. They aren't necessarily connected to the erector tube.
