So I picked up a new Savage Axis in .308 a couple weeks ago and managed to get it sighted in with 150gr power shock federal. After I got them on paper at 100y I had an average of 1.5 MOA (plenty good enough for me) but when I held up my end, and manged to get a hang of such a heavy trigger I got several 1MOA and even a 3/4MOA group. I had another box of 180gr powershock federal on hand and I decided to toss some of those down range just for the S&G of it. I expected it to hit low, which it did by 3-4 inches, but it also his left about 3-4 inches and the group was at the very best 4MOA. Anyone experience such a difference like this?

Jesus h Chr!st... Sorry shot gunners was posting from my phone just saw the word sporting in forum title and assumed I had the right one. Mod please delete at your leisure.

Simple bullet weight can make or break your grouping for a specific rifle. So can a different lot #. If you have some of that ammo left, keep it and buy a different lot to see if you get repeated accuracy. You might have found your rifle's favorite ammo.

However, if you were at teh end of your shooting session with the 180gr, you might have been getting tired. Give them another try to see if this situation repeats itself.

Edit: and to answer your question, yes. 170 federal fusion and 150 are completely different performers in my 30-30. 170 shoots all over the place. Like 6 inches with teh 170 grain, and 2-3 inches with the 150. (5 shot groups @ 100 yards)
