Hello all. I am brand new here and need some help. I am setting up a hunting and target shooting rifle and need some input in the optics. I have it narrowed down the the Viper hs-t 4-16 and the Sightron S tac 4-20. From what I have been reading on here I am leaning towards the Sightron. What I would like to know is how is it going to hold up to the hunting part that I want to use it for. Will it hold up to getting in and out of the truck, the occasional bumps and shakes that happened while trying to hike around in the bush, and it being slug across my chest bumping along on my quad and that type of thing. Any input would be appreciated thank you. Anthony.

My SIII held up to the recoil of a 338 Lapua for a year before I replaced it with a Nightforce. Since then it has ridden on a couple 308's, it's been on the quad, drug through the bush and in and out of the truck and it still works perfectly, turrets track well and glass is crystal clear.
I would buy Sightron over Vortex without question. I've owned two Vortex PST scopes in the last couple years, they have some nice features but I sold my 6-24 and still have the 4-16. They're decent but I think Sightron has better glass and turrets.
They both have lifetime warranty but I hear of people using their Vortex warranty a lot and I can't recall if I've ever heard of anyone having to use their Sightron warranty. The best warranty is the one you never have to use :)

I've been using the Sightron S-Tac 4-20 in Service Rifle competitions the last few months. It is a very good optic that is very well priced and can keep up with higher priced competitors. I don't baby my equipment but neither do I abuse it. I've used it in about 6 competitions this year including multi-day 600-100 yard events - along with all the walking, slinging and resting of the equipment from the trunk to the firing line to the target areas. Mechanically and optically the optic is solid. It has yet to let me down. The only real downside is the quality of the coating/finish Sightron applies to the S-Tac. I understand that it is built to a price point and accept that. Not a complaint but an observation to those who might be expecting more. After a few months it has picked up a lot of wear and abrasion marks from rubbing up against various buckles, magazines and equipment on my battle belt and chest rigs.

You can see some of the wear marks on the front part of the tube and front bell area.

I still recommend the optic to my friends and have no plans to change. A solid piece of equipment that continues to work well and represents one of the great deals in optics out there.
