Sightron scopes

Im gonna mount a sightron on a mod 12 in 22-50 looking to shoot about 800 feet.Im trying to decide between a 6-24x50 ffp or a 10x50?Would a 10 power be enough for that distance ?
 
800 feet is approx. 266 yards. 10 power would be plenty...unless you were meaning yards/meters?

What are you shooting at? Paper? Game? Shooting at a range or in the woods?

a 10x will make a target at 800m appear to be at 80m. A 10 inch target at a distance significantly less than a 100 yds is not that difficult to discern. Hitting a 10 inch target at 800m is another question. TR target shooters "can" hit a 10 inch "X" at 1000 yds - with IRON SIGHTS BUT they will tell you -- there are lot of mental gymnastics (and proper equipment) that permit this.
 
I have a 10 x 50 and at that distance I find I do most of my shooting in the 32x range. Some times more sometimes less depending on conditions and mirage.
 
For LR plinking, I prefer the SIII6-24 family of scopes. I have no issue seeing, aiming and engaging sub MOA targets to a mile at 24X.

Good glass lets you see far more then high mag/poor glass ever will.

Others much prefer the 8-32... A wonderful scope too and for those that love more mag.. why not?

I compete in F class with the SIII10-50. Nice.. but way to big and narrow field of view for plinking. Paper punching .. excellent.

If you are field shooting, field of view becomes very important. I want to see my own impacts so I can adjust for the next shot. High mag is great for aiming... not as much fun for seeing.

I would choose either of the 10-50 or the 8-32. I own all three of these Sightron scopes and I am partial to the bigger magnification for myself. If you are shooting stationary, why not go bigger power? never regret more usable magnification. The great thing about the Sightrons though is that they are still super clear at full mag. The 6-24 is a bit smaller then the 8-32, but not by that much and would be still fine on that rifle.
 
I hear those are great scopes for the money.
Was looking at those as well.
What kind of reticle did you get?
