Anyone have any thing to say about Sightron.
Looks interesting to me but I dont no anyone who has one to give me the low down on them.Sure the guy selling them tells ya they are the cats ass. But I want to hear from someone who owns one before I spend.
THANK YOU.

Depends what you are looking for. I owned (notice the past tense) one (SIII SS 6-24x50 Mil Dot) and a friend of mine owns one (SII 4-16x42 I think). If you are looking for a mid range scope than they are decent. If you are looking for a scope that will compare with Leupolds or better than keep looking. The website makes some big boasts which I found the scopes do not live up to.

Here are problems me and my friend have had:
1.The scope is not nearly as clear or bright as they say. It tends to get foggy at higher magnification.
2. The parallex adjustment is not precise, I could never quite dial it out completely. Close though.
3. In cold weather (-10 to -15 degrees C) the parallex adjustment tends to freeze up on both models. On the SII the objective becomes stiff and difficult to turn. On the SIII the adjustment knob spins but the internals don't move or are very sluggish making it difficult or impossible to adjust.
4. They lack adjustment range, if you are using a canted base you may end up not being able dial down far enough to shoot at mid to short range distances, or conversely if you are not you may not be able to dial up enough to shoot long range.

Now that being said they are not crap and if you are looking for an affordable mid range scope they are not bad. However the SIII turned out to be roughly on par with a bushnell 3200 I had but the SIII was twice the price. The only benefits I got from the Sightron over the bushnell were the exactrac system which works pretty good, Mil dots which you can get on pretty much any scope these days, and target turrets which are nice to have.

So to sum it up:
Are they all they claim to be? Not a chance!

Are they worth the money? Not for me as it wasn't what I needed in a scope, however there are many Sightron owners that are more than happy!

If you are looking for a scope with high end performance than you're probably going to have to buck up and buy a reputable high end scope. If you are looking for a mid to low range scope your money would probably be better spent on a good Bushnell or other mid range optic. Before you purchase one be perfectly clear that it is not a high end scope or you will be sorely disappointed.

In case you were wondering I had to send my Sightron back as it did not have the adjsutment or cold weather performance to match the rifles capabilities that it was mounted on.

Just my .02

P.S I know where you can get a Sightron SIII SS 6-24x50 Mil Dot in excellent condition if you are still looking for one. PM me if you want his number, he is an excellent guy to deal with.

John
