Sightron SIII, which model do you prefer?

Need to put an optic on a long range target only rifle, Tikka CTR in 260 Remington with a KRG Bravo stock. It would be for up to and over 1000 yards. Long range will be new to me so I would appreciate some input. I'm leaning towards a Sightron SIII 6-24x50. Of course there are a couple different options in this scope, but I think it's the https://sightronusa.com/product/siiiss624x50lrzsffp-moa-2/ that appeals to me.

FFP, zero-stop, MOA-2 reticle - the features I think I want. What are your thoughts?

I have an older model SIII 6-24x50 SFP MOA-2 that I really like. The glass is fantastic in my opinion. The SFP works ok for me but I wish mine had the zero-stop and it would be perfect. I have it mounted on a Savage 308 and have stretched it out to 800m and no doubt it is good to go further. You can't go too wrong with your choice in my opinion.

Been a very happy Sightron user/dealer since the first SIIIs came into Canada. For the high mag SFP role, very few other scopes offer the performance vs cost.

The 6-24 was my fave LR scope and you will not need any higher mag shooting to 1 mile and beyond. For field shooting, field of view and scope travel is what you really need when you have good glass.

If you are paper punching like we do in F class, run all the mag you want... here I use the SIII and SV 10-50.

If you prefer a FFP scope, then I would lean you to the fantastic assortment of scopes from Athlon. I am also a user/dealer for this brand and just loving the recent scopes. Tracking has been superb... all the current features and I feel really user friendly layouts. Great reticle choices... and glass that punches way above their price point.

Like Sightron, Athlon is proving to be a great value option.

As much as I like Sightron, I am not a fan of their FFP line up.... and use Athlon in this application.

PM or email if I can help

I also use the SSiii,in 10x50, on my 300WM love it. I went the Vortex route a few years ago, then moved up to the Sightron, I will never go back.

Not to high jack but I am curious on the robustness of these units.

Are they geared more towards target and not really intended for field use?

Which brand and scope? I have talked about both SIII and Athlon

What type of field use did you have in mind?

Jerry

The Athlon , don't want to say abuse the thing but the usual slips and falls, sliding from a tree when you are peeing, bi pod tipping over when on concrete from not extending a leg all the way , your buddy decides to try it without you looking and drops it on the bench. You know, the usual. ;)

I run an SIII 10-50 in a SFP MOA-2 configuration with capped turrets for F class. I did not care about FFP because for this application the targets are clearly marked in MOA increments already anyway. No complaints, I do not use a zero stop. I do not think they were available at the time, might be a nice feature.

I had tried a borrowed 10-50 with a fine duplex and found it way too hard to see in some light conditions.

Full disclosure I did buy it from Jerry but I am not on commission or anything.

So far, lots of rds fired, typical PRS useage with knocks and bumps, no change in POI and tracking has been deadly. Dial these scopes alot and often... they continue to really impress.

I have had one rifle fall off the deck of my truck, hit the tailgate before landing on the dirt road and hold zero at 700m. I wouldn't choose to do it again but it worked just fine.

Leaning on a tailgate and having it slide to the ground has also shown no shifts nor damage. I am running Ares ETR on my rifles currently. I feel these 34mm scopes are very well built.

I would feel comfy with normal useage

Glad the scope is working well for you. Thanks for the business

Over a period of about a year i bought 3 S111s from Jerry , 6 x 24 x 50 , SPF and bought tactical turrets and zero stops elsewhere . The zero stops take a bit of fitting but all has been well with those scopes . I'm considering an Athalon and if i do it will be from Jerry also . Could be 10 years ago i bought those Sightrons .

Exactly what I wanted to know with real world tests.

Much appreciated!

I used to shoot my precision AR15 with a Sightron SIII 6-32X56 LRMOA SFP in the ORA/DCRA Precision matches when we were still allowed to shoot AR15s. This scope never let me down. I still like it very much and can highly recommend it. I would get the model with the zero stop if I had to buy it now.

I have a 6-24 SFP MOA on my .260; have shot it out to 1000m. No zero stops; these would be nice. I am very pleased with the scope.

Fyi on Athlon, they did a zoom podcast with the guys at First Focal Plane podcast on You Tube. You can also check the reviews on Sniper's Hide on them. They are essentially offering the same warranty as Vortex, they even tell some stories on that count, on the podcast.
