Signed up for hunting license, need a rifle (precision maybe?)

Vanguard S2 / Howa 1500 (same thing) best bang for the buck for a hunting rifle that's guaranteed to be Sub MOA... And not caramels sub-MOA... ACTUALLY within an inch at 100 yards...

I usually don't jump in on the whole you need X calibre for animal Y and you HAVE to have at least that calibre, it's 90% bull####.

With a moose though, seriously .308 or 30-06 is a safe minimum, they can kill and be aggressive when threatened and they are big, big creatures.

What's better , tikka t3 or vanguard s2?
And do either of them have issues that need to be fixed out of the box? Crappy stock or trigger etc.

I can't say much about Tikka other than a friend had a stainless one and the outside of the barrel started putting.

Trigger on my Vanguard Series 2 is adjustable. Only thing I don't like is the flimsy thin sheet metal safety up by the receiver.

Beware of moose fangs!

7mm-08, 6.5X55SE, 6.5-284 are capable of taking deer and moose, and will deliver fine accuracy.

Most moose I've hunted in the last 35 years were shot at less than 50 paces. Not sure "precision" is a requirement for moose hunting?

road hunters need "precision" rifles hehehe and ya don't anyone get offended I'm just playin around :D
getting closer to animals takes skill...... a skill not negated by using a precision rifle for hunting.
a hunter can be precise with any rifle , just choose a caliber/bullet weight that has the velocity and energy required..... this info is readily available.
I remember taking my win70 with it's fancy stock, 26" heavy barrel and big ass break and bipod and an extra wide padded sling to lug it around...... my buddies model 70 was decades older, no fancy frills, rifle, optic, sling and good ammo...... and lotsa practice at ranges past 100 yards. his old girl was farrr lighter and handier in the real hunting world.
and .308 in whatever rifle you choose is just fine using a quality bullet 165gr and up for deer, moose, black bear, caribou ect. bullet choice and shot placement is much more important than how much the rifle cost or how cool the rifle looks :D

I went to the gun shop today and handled a couple of bolt actions. I've come to the conclusion I should buy a dedicated hunting rifle , and worry about tactical when the time comes.

I liked the action of the Savages and Tikka, I disliked the Vanguard. There were no Remingtons in stock due to the recall. As if now I'm split between the three makes.
