I'm registered for Steelpocalypse 2017 at Silverdale, on May 28. I've never shot steel, only IDPA at the club level. Any advice for a beginner?

Have at least 5 mags or speed loaders. Use light loads. And remember the plates are small not full size IDPA sils. Practice hands up, draw and shoot.

Load one mag more than you think you will use.
penalties are worse than going slow.

The competition is supposed to be relaxed and suitable for newbies. Requirements are as follows (there is a loaner gun for shooters without and non-RPAL shooters can compete, under supervision (!?).

REQUIREMENTS:
Pistol with 2 magazines
belt/holster optional (must have holster card or Black Badge to use)
200 rounds of ammunition
Eye and Ear Protection

Based on my first steel challenge years ago......Ammo. Bring lots and lots of ammo. Tons of fun but I badly underestimated how many misses are possible with an all steel match.

So tempted to sign up! I don't have holster cert though so ontop of never competing, I'd also not have a holster. LOL. I really need to get in gear and get into competitions at my range.
