Hi there,

I'd like to learn/try sights installations and I was wondering,

When you replace sights that use pins, what do you use to
remove the pins? Any recommendations on "punch set"?

If you punch the pins, can you just put them back or you need
new ones?

Do you guys know of any good site that shows how it is done, or
has some other useful info on "pin removal".

Can you post a pic of what type of sight you are referring to?

I want to put tritium sights on S&W 686.

The front sight looks like it has a one pin holding it. It was punched
(from what it looks like) from right to left.

My question is: If I punch the pin out, can it be reused, or do I have
to buy another one.

Any help would be appreciated as I'm just starting out with the gunsmithing
stuff.

If you don't bugger the pin punching it out, and if it fits the sight you are replacing, it can be re-used.

"...can it be reused..." Yep. Use a punch that's close or at the same size as the pin and a plastic mallet. Where you are will affect where to get a punch. You can use a wee bit of brass bar stock if you can find a piece the right size. Try Crappy Tire.

Usually the new front sight isn't drilled, you have to do it or get it done.
