Silicone or Graphite?

I want to use something other then regular gun oil on my 10/22 as it seems to get quite 'gunky' with the burnt powder residue mixing in with the oil.

Would Silicone or Graphite spray be better?

Dry teflon spray that is used for fishing reels. I bought mine at a local fishing supply shop, I've also seen Remington Dri-Lube used at the local range, comes in a spray can and sprays wet but after a few minutes it dries and leaves a teflon residue which is dry to the touch. I'd personally stay away from graphite, it stains everything it touches, and is somewhat gritty, I've used graphite spray for car door locks, but nothing else.
 
i kno exactly what your talking about i just tore down and cleaned my 597 and had to pick black goo out of the entire action i had to clean it up and re-oil with regular gun oil knowing full well that in anothjer 500-1000 rnds it will be gunked up terrible again....

im gonna try the remington dry-lude next time as ive heard several people on here use it and have good results....
 
10/22 lube

I've been shooting my 10/22's for years without using any lube on the bolt. there is no signs of premature wear that I can see. However, I use a teflon lube where the bolt contacts the hammer and sparingly in the trigger group. I have found that any kind of oil on the bolt will gum it up real fast. Everyone seems to have their own thing that works for them, that is what works for me. Later.

Break Free - once seasoned (use lots) , with continous use the black goo goes out the ejection port. The teflon impregnated in the metal keeps the carbon from sticking. It works after it dries but a few drops are needed when the action feels to dry. If you can find some the stainless Break Free is better - it was designed for vulcan gatling guns to stay longer under greater heat and friction. Its thicker and drier.
