Hey guys I just noticed the next coin in the Silver Maple Leaf Wildlife Series is out and it's a pronghorn antelope! I don't think I knew there were antelope in Canada. Anyone hunt them? Tell us!

Your in AB and you've never seen one? Go to the south end of the province, from Brooks, Suffield, Medicine Hat, Milk River area. You'll see them in heards of usually about a dozen. Super fast, amazing vision and quite flighty. They are curious though and may come into investigate an odd looking object. Unlike deer they don't jump fences, they always go under.

Of a dozen or so meals of 'speed goat' , must say I enjoyed them all.
Certainly a different flavour, but ... me like !

Southwest AB for the masses, but, IIRC, residents only' for SK.

White flag on a hill...will bring em right to ya every time...Or sit somewhere close and blow a coyote call...they will come right up to you to see what you are doing :)

VERY fast!! I call em Speed Goats as well!

Odd. I've seen many jump over a fence, rather than go around or wiggle under. I even have video of us watching one try and figure out if he wanted over the fence, or around it. We were waiting to see if we had to shoot it since if he went around the fence, he would walk over a cattle guard and would likely break a leg doing so. He jumped over in the end, quite handily I might add.

Shouldn't have said always as its not unheard of. I've never seen one jump a fence, but where I hunt the landowner doesn't string the lower most strand of barbed wire specifically so the antelope can go under, the mulies always jump right over!

Antelope jumping fences???????

Please supply photo or video ....... I lived in SASK many years and watched a lot of pronghorns......... Never did see one jump a fence.
Pretty much wide held belief is they can, but dont.

At some point in their evolution, one would think they will begin to learn this behavior like the deer have.

On another note ....... I have seen a couple gophers sitting atop fence posts ......... Tallest thing I have seen in S Sask :)

Lucky

I would love to supply video. However, it is an old video from 2000, back when we used this thing called VHS. Remember that? Hell, I don't even have a VHS player anymore. Someday I will make the effort to transfer all my old film based photos and tape based videos to digital media, but it may take a while.
