I heard that Silver Willow Golf and Sporting Clays have temporarily closed their sporting clays facility. This has been confirmed by a notice on their web page and by the President of the Alberta Sporting Clays Association. The reason given is failure to obtain insurance or failure to obtain insurance at a viable rate that would allow the range facility part of the business. I have heard that there are two options being considered. One is looking for a more reasonable rate:) and the other being dropping the clays and expanding the golf.:(
I think that this part of the world has enough golf courses and loosing this shooting facility would be a terrible blow to the shooting sports in this area.

X2!!
I shot there this year and it is a superb facility.
A friend of mine knows the owner, I'll get in touch with
him when I can and reply back with what/any
info. I find.

Anyone heard any more on this . . .?
The answering machine onlys says closed till further notice.

I have heard that Silver Willow has obtained insurance and plan to reopen on Feburary 22nd. I have also heard that the Carstairs Trap Cub is meeting tomorrow to decide their future. They have been asked to voluntarily give up their lease so that their range and Silver Willow can be sold and subdivided and/or developed into something other than a shooting range.

Their web site says they've reopened:dancingbanana:

Here's to hoping they can (or decide to) stay that way!

I sure hope they do decide to stay in the range business, but I do not think that is their long term goal.:( The owners seem to have a plan to develope the area into a non shooting facility as demonstrated by their request to have the Carstairs Trap Club let them out of their lease and move. The Carstairs Club is meeting tonight to make their decision. I think that in the near future we will have two less shooting facilities. :(

Any news from the Carstairs meeting? Geez, I just started shooting Sporting Clays, I sure hope I get a chance to :sniper:learn it

Well I am not sure what is happening with Carstairs.
But AHEIA (Calgary gun club) has plans in the works to put up a sporting clays facility

Well Gentlemen, If I may:

I am a member at Carstairs, and did attend the meeting in its entirety.

The discussions were deep, with many members both old and new expressing concerns as well as brainstorming for alternatives and possible solutions to the current situation thrust upon the club.

At this point there has been a committee form to discuss alternatives with the Owner of Silver Willow, in an effort to find a solution which will work for all the parties involved.

The club has sent the owner a letter and we are waiting to hear back from him. It is my understanding that he is out of the country right now, but has received a copy electronically.

These are the events to this point, and it is hoped by all the members that a win/win solution can be worked out.

regards and all the best

AbH

Well thanks Abhobbist, glad to have the information. It'll be nice to have AHEIA with an actual sporting clays course but I'll sure miss Silver Willow if it goes away.
