Does anyone know the current process to join Silverdale club in Ontario for shooting restricted? I have read some conflicting things, that others who have joined said that there aren't any probation shoots, etc. Can anyone confirm?
ALL NEW MEMBERS MUST TAKE A RANGE SAFETY COURSE
COURSES ARE AVAILABLE EVERY SATURDAY AT 11 am
Keep the sport of shooting safe, read the range rules, ask questions and take the safety course
All new members are required to take a range orientation course, this takes only 30 to 45 minutes and are held every Saturday at 11 am.
There ARE probationary shoots, but it is as painless as possible.
You come in, ask for an RO to accompany you for a prob shoot, they are always available on weekends.
I joined Silverdale a while back. Great club and family run business.Their annual rates aren't too painfull either. From what I remember there is a short range and club safety course(mandatory now I believe),test and three or four prob shoots. It is definitely best to call ahead to arrange for the safety course. There ARE probationary shoots, but it is as painless as possible.

Leo is a great guy as most there are,I found him cleaning up my 357. brass for a friend and was given a full box of reloads a few weeks later.Nice!Great club, you have to watch one particular RSO (Leo) He will take your brass of the firing line floor while the flag is green and you are checking your targets. I called him on it and he said he was "cleaning up". Non of my rimfire was "cleaned up" just my .308.
other than that the club is great.
Only one course then, and first prob shoot was the same morning. The guns and ammo are also included that first day. They made the arrangements for the LTATT as I used my own guns for the follow up prob shoots.Yes, I have an RPAL and own a restricted firearm.
I just wasn't clear if there were actually 2 seperate courses required to shoot restricted at Silverdale. At first I thought this process was something that could be completed on one Saturday, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
Just trying to find a club that I can complete the requirements and apply for an LTATT as quickly/painlessly as possible so I can start shooting. I tried calling a week or two and the person I spoke to didn't seem to understand what I was asking.

He can get pretty touchy about pointing over the berm. It might be all about safety or the house just a few hundred feet on the other side might belong to him.He is the most hard assed RO there, and can be quite annoying at times, but he is a good guy. I have had to tell him to f**k off a couple times though.
The best was when I was loading my Cooey 600 and had the gun tilted back so the rounds would slide down the tube mag. He flipped out saying that the barrel was pointing over the berm. He was an ass about it, until I explained that was the only f**king way to load the gun!
