So I am thinking of taking a day off work and go small game hunting in Simcoe County Forests. How busy does it get there because I remember my hunting course instructor saying that it's packed? Is there a tract you would recommend?

Thanks

They are always busy, and not just with hunters. I would drive a little farther and hunt some crown land north of Barrie. Simcoe county forests are often reforested jack pine lots and the small game hunting is marginal. Crown land is usually unmolested and there is a lot more of it,

You need to be a member of OFHA to hunt Simcoe County Forests - that in itself is not a bad thing - for 50 bucks you get 10 magazines, $2 (or 3) mil liability insurance and a nifty sticker for your car....plus representation at municipal, county, provincial and federal level.

For crown land, try this (and let me know if you find a good spot):

I'm already a member of OFAH. I found crown land a couple of hours from the GTA north of a town called Kirkfield. I'm might head up there this weekend to scout it and see if it's any good for plinking and hunting. The area ID is G343.

Just north of barrie is busy this time of year, dog walkers, cyclists, atv's dirtbikes etc depending on what track you are in. Most of them know that hunters are in the area and just say hello if they see you at a trailhead. Had one or two cyclists pass me on a trail and look at me like I was an alien before.
The ones further out are less busy.

About 30% of the tracts get 80% of the civilian traffic. do your research and find the tracts which are not that used.. there are lots which do not have the trail roads, and those tend to be used less.. Also many have more then one entrance.. find the less popular one.

sometimes the smallest ones are the less used ones ;)
