Hi All,

Well, I've been doing all kinds of research on here, searching old threads, reading everything I can on the subject of scopes for my new Savage MkII TR 22LR.

I know everyone has an opinion ranging from going with uber cheap Tasco all the way up to crazy expensive Leupold. I'm new to scope buying as this is my first bolt gun, but it is a 22LR, so this much I know:

- Most shooting will be inside of 100 yards, more likely about 50 yards
- I'm convinced about the virtues of having AO, so that is important to me. Or else a dedicated rimfire scope (parallax around 50 yards)
- Don't likely need more than 12x magnification, but from what I've seen so far something with 3-9x and 40mm objective most likely.
- I'm not afraid to spend more money on a scope if i'm convinced its worth it. I don't want to buy junk.

So far, I've seen and been recommended by 2 local gun shops the Simmons Pro-Target 3-9x with AO and the BSA Sweet 22, also with AO (i understand there are both AO and non-AO versions available). They range in price between $130 and $199 respectively. Which would you choose, or, can you recommend another scope with parallax set to 50 yards and/or AO?

thanks!

I owned the bsa sweet 22 6-18x w/AO.
Found it from an airsoft company. Was actually cheaper than bass pros 3-9x scope!
It pays to shop around.
I really liked it but didn't need it on a ultralight gun. Switched to a trs-25.
Regret selling it!

for around $200 have a look at the Nikon Pro Staff rim fire 3-9 . I recently bought one and very pleased with it

I have the Sightron S2 4-16-42 on my MKII TR ... I say save up and get good glass....

and take a few minutes to make a thicker baseplate to torque down the action to the stock properly.

That's pretty impressive... and I'll bet took more than just a few minutes and probably some decent machine shop tools to create. How much would you charge me to make me one of those? :)

I saw a review of the Nikon Prostaff Rimfire EFR 3-9x w/AO. I'm liking it.... just need to know where to buy.

I see that P&D lists it; anyone know if any Calgary shops have one that I can see? I know Bass Pro doesn't, or at least the guy at the counter I spoke with on the weekend didn't show me any.

Update...

Tried ordering the Bushnell Legend Ultra HD from Wanstalls who had a really good price on sale until yesterday. Was excited about it, but then got a call yesterday saying they oversold them and were out. Oh well...

My good friend convinced me that the Nikon was the better scope anyway, so I started searching and actually found one in Canada. I have a Pro staff II Target EFR 3-9x 40mm on the way. Considering it's about the same price as the BSA, but much higher quality, I'm totally stoked.

I have a BSA on my Savage .22 and I absolutely hate it. I guess its alright for a lower end entry level scope, but I'd spend a bit more and get something a bit nicer. I bought a 2nd Savage .22 and put a Vortex Crossfire on it, much nicer scope!
