Simple Cheap DIY Trail Cam Hanger..

I've always just used the straps. This method is interesting, as it avoids the issue of mice/squirrels chewing the straps, as well as permitting easier camera angle adjustment. I may start using it on cameras that I don't move much. Thanks!

Thats a great idea. Although im stuck using straps. Cows will break that, and with the straps they just knock the camera off centre. But i really like it

I've been using that method for years but I use a much longer (4-6") screw eye bolt to go in the tree so you can turn the camera sideways. I also use a wing nut on the joining bolt so I don't need to carry a wrench to adjust that joint. I also sandblast the bolts before painting so the paint sticks better. I'd show a pic but all my cams are out and about ATM.

I have made these for using trail cameras for surveillance on my deer property. I have noticed that using the straps is usually the best way to get the camera noticed as the straps really show up against the bark of the tree. I will be moving towards using a wing nut to tighten and adjust the camera. I also like to use longer eye screws to make sure I have the camera well secured into the trees. I like putting the camera 12 -15' off the ground as it makes detection less noticeable.

Here is another link to the same idea that you can print out for the parts list:

one advantage it gives i just found out, is that you can mount it on even a small tree. something so small you'd need to wedge sticks in if you were using a strap. I just set up one of my cams with a ball and socket mount on a tree that's only 2" in diameter. That mount came with this particular camera, and I never used it, because it was designed for flat surfaces. I found I could get two of the three screws on the plate in that little tree, and it was quite sufficient to hold the camera steady. The mice had half chewed through the strap on this camera, so I was glad to mount it solidly.
