It is not just 1911's that are full of MIM'd parts. S+W revolvers, 870 express are a couple that come to mind.

That's why the trigger and hammer on my newer 686 aren't nice and shiny like older models.

MIM is as good as billet if it's done right, and any major gun maker these days does it just fine. The can be heat treated like any other part, they just help bring the cost down on production..... but some people like to rant about them.....MIM and cast are two different things.....
