So i was watching Ultimate Soldier Challenge and they were using this stuff.
Anyone have any experience with it or know about the legalities?

I have a couple friends in the Canadian Forces who trained with it (they where posted all over the place internationally so I don't know if it was at a CF base where they used it) and said they wished it was legal for civilian use. Apparently they looked into it (I have no idea how far or if someone just once told them it was illegal) and found out they aren't allowed for civilians.

My experience? Hurts like $hit when you get hit with it........
Was down in Fort Knox doing FIBUA training with Simunition ammo, rifles & "Darth Vader" masks. Kinda like a
hopped-up version of MILSIM tactical paintball.

Good training tool for the military IMO. Simunition only works properly in modified firearms.......I don't think it
would function at all in an off-the-shelf AR or similar.

I have also heard simunition is illegal for civvies but have not actually found the law/prohibition anywhere.

I sincerely doubt it's "illegal"... It's just that the distributor will only sell to agencies, for "whatever" reason they deem fit.
Ther product... Their decision.

It may be classified as a restricted explosive which limits its use to LE and military only. Not sure why such a classification would be given unless the submitter requested it or if it was specifically marketed that way, they're no different than any inert payload safety cartridge. In any case, it's not something you really want to train with. Airsoft is nearly as real, a lot less expensive, and a lot less painful.

I've used simunition and it works alright, I didn't really like it. I ended up getting rounds jammed in my barrel. Not sure if it's legal or not, but you'd be better off with airsoft. If you were to get your hands on it, you either need a different bolt for your ar15 if your using a .223 simunition round, or a different upper for the 9mm ones. Not sure about pistols as I've only used it with rifles and C9's. It was pretty neat tho, had a 200 round box of linked simunition.

Here's a link to conversion kits. Simunition is now available to some US civilian ranges.

local cops train with it here, i have a few fired rounds of the 9mm stuff, it is once fired 9mm IVI that has a primer and a piston that pushes the projectile out and works the action. it will fire in a live rifle (but wont cycle the action unless its a straight blowback style and your lucky) but the sim weapons wont take live ammo and i think they can even use mags that wont hold live ammo

The Armoured Car company I work for trains with sim rounds. The manufacturer will only sell to organizations that have certified instructors.

You need a special barrel to use it and even then you're dealing with a Restricted firearm and ammunition. If you combine the two and you're not at an approved range you're running a pretty big risk.

And it does hurt when you get it in a soft spot. I took a round in teh knuckle at about 5 feet and it stung nicely. It is a valuable training tool for scenario based training but if you want to practice your shooting drills you'd be better off on the flat range. I can't say for sure but my guess is that it's wicked pricey too.

Company insists that only certified instructors run simmunition training ,that's prob why they sell only to agencies.
Special firearms designed to use it, very expensive guns and ammo.
Special helmets, necks and groin guards to be worn,
And Yes it hurts like hell ,leaves bruises and sometimes scars ,but great training tool.
as I recall the instructors course was 2 full days and lots of hits on bare skin. Painful.

It's an amazing training tool, and yes you can use it in pistols. You actually know when you get hit, and it makes you check your corners properly. For guys saying that airsoft is just as good if not better. . . if you can't get your hands on simunition then it's an acceptable substitute. Reball is also a good thing to use if you can't get your hands on sim. But you don't feel airsoft nearly as well as sim, not to mention having hundreds of rounds in a mag is unrealistic training (because most people wouldn't count out their rounds).

As for legalities that's already been covered. But it is a made in Canada product (at least the stuff I've used)

I agree it is a great training tool. I have used it in MP5s, pistols and C8s. It does have some issue with FTFs if you load your mags with too much or do not properly clean the conversion kits.
