Since when has the term ACOG been in use?

Since when has the term ACOG been in use. Like, what year.

The internets got me 1987. Is that right?

Also, I get that ACOG is a registered trademark to Trijicon, but is it somehow in the public domain because of military affiliations, or something like that? Or is ACOG now just a word that anybody uses to refer to an ACOG-style sight, like AR-15 or kleenex or ziploc?

I need this info for something work-related.

I've never heard anyone use ACOG as a generic term, ever.

It's been in use since Trijicon made the first one.

I think the labeling of all ACOG type optics as "ACOG SIGHTS, or ACOG SCOPES" comes from the "Call of Duty" Players. who try to talk like SAS operators after playing the game.
