Single action bar Maverick 88: Will a cut-up Mossberg 500 fit?

Like the title says, I was given an older Maverick 88 with a broken action arm. This older gun only has one action arm, no provision for the second.

Can I take a new Mossberg 500 or Maverick forearm and cut off the second action arm, then fit it?

No problem. I did some searching on the net for you and several guys south of the border say just cut off the extra bar and its all good. I have not done this however and I am just relaying info from the US based gun sites.
