I am looking at buying a good single shot break barrel in .410 or 20 gauge for small game. I have looked at the H&R Pardner a few times and like what I see for $140. Is there any others I should look at that are as good or better than the H&R for around the same price? Thanks

check the EE, theres tons of single shot shotguns floating around. personally, he handiest single shot i ever had was a baikal take down 12 gauge i had in high school. the barrel had been professionally shortend to 18 1/2'' by a local gun smith.

i called it my 'hooky gun'. I used to get ready in the morning, hid my school books and put a hunting vest, the gun broken down, some shells and a lunch in my bag. id leave the house 'to catch the school bus' and keep walking up the road. id hunt partridge all day, hide them in the woods and go home to meet the bus.

once i was home, id go downstairs, assemble the gun, put on my hunting clothes and say the i was gonna go try to shoot a partridge before supper. usually id be gone an hour and come home with 6 :D they thought i was the best partridge hunter on the north shore:evil:

That is an awesome story. I assume you still managed to do well in school?

I owned a 12g H&R Pardner and now I wish I would've kept it. It carried nice and pointed well. I still remember the time I took my girlfriend out with it (to shoot the shotgun, not do her in:p) and I loaded up a Win. 3" mag w/#6 shot and fired. My thumb smacked my nose so hard I teared up and started sneezing, my gf just laughed her head off
Anyhow, the NEF & H&R singleshots are a good bargain IMO.

For a 410, try the Yildiz TK-36. Neat little folder, well made and usually have good to very good walnut on them. Not much over $200.
