Hi guys,

I’m wondering if there are any manufactures making a single shot break open 22. Which makes should I be looking for?

Thanks

Chiappa Little Badger and Deluxe badger.

Those are the only two I know of that are specifically 22lr, you can also get a 22lr barrel for a TC encore, but that's going to cost you a lot more.

I’d look at Chiappa as well, not exactly what your looking for but a buddy has the Double Badger and he loves it. Break action 410/22lr combo. I was out with him last season and he shot a bunch of grouse with it, they make a couple different styles of break action single shots.

If you settle on the Chiappa Little Badger, be aware that they use a star washer on one side of the main hinge bolt which starts chewing away the frame as soon as you first open or close the action. Removing this bolt and replacing that star washer with a normal polished washer should extend the life of the hinge massively, especially if you add a dab of grease to the parts, and put a drop of Loc-tite or similar on the bolt threads so it won't work itself loose. Mine was coming loose every time I used it until I discovered this problem, wiped away a bunch of metal shavings and realized what was happening. Now it opens and closes as often as I like and the joint retains the same moderately firm tension I set it to months ago. Very silly choice on Chiappa's part putting that star washer in there, as it's easy to see it would soon run out of room for further tightening once enough metal was chewed away.

Again not quite what was asked, but the Savage 24 was sold in 22 LR/410. The soldered barrel versions are said to be very accurate.

had a couple of the h&r .22s before. both were fun solid guns. had a savage 24 dl 22mag/410 too. it was a beauty but heavy. i miss them all

Chiappa made many poor choices on that gun.... If you want quality design and materials: avoid

I don't disagree. Like so many modern guns, it seems more of a tinkerer's gun than something you can be happy with out of the box. I've modified mine in a bunch of ways and now it's a very reliable, accurate, fun and solid gun. If I had to leave it as it came to me from Tenda I'd prefer to sell it, but modest skills and a bit of time made it into something I'll enjoy shooting for many years.

Old h&r handy rifles

^this. H&R Handi (Handy?) Rifles, I remember my LGS had them for $149 about 10-12 years ago. Can't believe I didn't snag one. lol It was heavy, the trigger pull was heavy/gritty and rumoured to be very difficult to improve. (was told by a knowledgable friend not to bother) Anyhow, I've seen a couple of Rossi single shot/break action...but have no personal experience with them.

The Chiappa-I wouldn't touch another with a 10 foot pole. Bought a new one when they came out, cheapest...most poorly made rifle I've ever owned. After about 20 shots, the sear (I'm guessing) gave out and the gun would shoot when it wanted to. (?????) Took it back to the dealer who replaced it on the spot, sold the replacement unfired. They were $175 back then.

The Handi-rifles are good little rifles for the price they were 10 years ago. I've got 2 of the 22lr sportsters, both with synthetic stocks, 20 inch sporter weight barrels with open sights. One I put a Skinner peep on. It makes a very compact, slim, "handi" truck or quad gun. My triggers are both acceptable, probably around 3.5 to 4 lbs and suprisingly crisp. Ejection is very positive, accuracy seems okay, I've never actually sat down and benched them, but they seem to hit what I aim at. One of my regrets is that I didn't grab one in 22 magnum before they were gone. They also came in a youth version, only difference was a shorter length of pull.

I snagged a .22lr barrel off the ee for my 20ga h&r tamer, I later picked up a 223/410 H&R combo but realized I was better off with a proper bolt action 223

I'm hoping Henry makes a rimfire version of their single shot rifle. If it were scaled down appropriately, then it would be a nice little single shot. I've been wishing for something single shot, rimfire, and not bolt action that falls between Chiappa and Browning Low Wall in terms of price. Seems to me there's a decent gap to be filled there that at the moment can only be filled by buying used...
