I just received a "Winchester 37A .410 in pretty much NIB condition..only thing is....nowhere does it mention winchester...I already have a few of these singles and all the others mention winchester/win western made in canada, etc....This one actually says Cooey 37A...made in canada..The butt plate also does not have the winny logo..sae buttplate, but where the win logo would be it is just blank..
Was this a limited model...or what???

Kinda strange....answers.comments...

Thanks..

Seems like that....but cooey were bought by win during the original model 84 days...there is the cooey 84 by H.W arms and company..and also a cooey 84 by winchester western..that is were it all started i believe..While winchester had their own model 37!!...then they went after cooey..they got the cooey/winchester 840 (duck on pistol grip)...and then the second gen...840 with the bevertail forend and no checkering..win also had the 370..(same as the first set of 840's but with plain stock). Then the 37A came around...so...to my knowledge...cooey was long gone when the model 37A's were manufactured...I know, i know, they are still cooeys at heart..but still..The only 37A's that I have ever seen have only had the winchester brand name.

Correct me if i'm wrong...not 100% on that order..

Winchester purchased H. W. Cooey in 1961.When Winchester purchased Cooey they kept the Model 84 till about 1968.The recievers were marked Winchester Western instead of H.W. Cooey.THe shotgun was still marked Cooey Model 84.

Then the Model 370 Winchester and the Model 840 Winchester/Cooey were introduced. Both were cheaper versions of the old Model 84.

Later the Winchester/Cooey Model 840 was dropped and the Model 370 was changed to the Winchester Model 37A.Mostly upgraded wood and hammer spur.

All the Model 37A shotguns I have seen were marked Winchester.

Maybe the one you have was one that was used when the company was making changes to the 840/370 and not sure if it would be introduced as a Winchester model or a Cooey model.Do not know if this is correct but it is a possibility.

Yeah could be....I found it very strange when I first saw the cooey logo on the 37A. may have been a trial version as you said!! Lucky to have found it in as new in box condition..
