I ran new single stack 9mm mags in my Trojan yesterday and found a number of failure to feed issues, failure to drop free etc. Oddly, these were all with Tripp Cobra mags.

What's the best resource regading tuning them or does anyone know who does the best mag tuning right now? I have 5 that need to be done.

I had the same problems. I loaded the magazines with 10 rds and let them sit for 2-3 weeks and the problems went away.

think the round is hitting the underside of the ejector! Easy fix coming up!
Hey Earl. Long time no see!

That is very, very likely. STI 9mm mags don't sit as high as Tripp Cobra and STI tunes the ejector for their mags.
Every time I've seen a broken 9mm ejector; it's been due to a Tripp mag being slammed in during slide lock.
Trim the underside of the ejector so the mag doesn't make contact and you'll be all set.

Hi Earl... I am not an expert but I have tuned my 9 Tripp mags to work well with my 9mm Trojans and I have tuned another half dozen to work with a local club members trojan
All the 9mm Trojans have aftec extractors and the stock STI ejectors. The 9rd STI mags are pretty good as they come and require little...but of course they only hold 9 rounds....LOL...

In Brian Enos's forums they were recommending that the feed lips be opened up to .350"... I have been setting mine a little tighter at .340"... The Tripp mags come pretty close to that... Some Wilsons I tried were at .310 " and they wouldnt feed well at all... The best tuning change you can make on the TRIPP mags is to open up the follower a little... Two pair of pliers makes quick work of that. Grip the back of the follower and and just stretch open the gap a little..That will ensure the first round in a fully charged mag goes high and doesnt nose dive on you...

I have got my Trojans so that they will feed the Zero 125 jhp-c bullet that Double Tap sells but for matches I would receommend you go to RN just to be 101 % safe.

If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me

Best regards

Dennis,

That's awesome. I found today that the extractor tension sucks and the ejector was hitting the round when mags were inserted. Couldn't get good tension on the extractor so I'll probably just throw an Aftec in. Undercut the ejector so there is good clearance.

I read on Brian's forum that some guys were adjusting the feed-lips to .310 at Virgil Tripps' suggestion.

Thoughts?

You are welcome Earl... Havent shot with you in years.... You can never go wrong putting an aftec in but I never got around to it for my .40 Trojan and it works just fine with my tripp 9 rd .40 mags. I would think you should be able to adjust the extractor tensions it so that it works ok until you can get your hands on an aftec. When using 10 rd mags the tension for the 9mm cant be set too tight or they wont feed.... particularly if you are using lighter recoil springs...I am using an 8 # spring in my trojans and they are working just fine

.310" just sounds too tight to me... I couldnt get my Wilson 10 rd mags to feed until I opened them up to .340"... If the failures to feed that you were experiencing were nose dives, that just seems to be moving in the wrong direction to my way of thinking......I have been very happy with the Tripps since they have been tuned.....What bullet profile are you using?

Regards
Dennis

Before you do anything, try a different bullet profile. I run that exact setup and had terrible feeding problems. I went back to a RN profile (Berry 147RN) and now it runs like a champ.
