Hello....:)

I just discovered this forum from a fellow member of my Canadian Ural and Dnepr Riders forum. You guys have an excellent forum here!

I have been reading a lot of posts on the Mosin Nagan, which I just purchased last week. Looks great with the Russian motorcycle!

Unfortunately, I was not aware of the scarcity of 7.62x54r ammo (my bad), but I do not regret buying it. Please excuse my ignorance, but can .308 rounds be used? I have read a few posts on this, but perhaps I am confusing re-loading using .308 with shooting store bought .308 rounds.

If the 7.62x54r are my only options (do not shoot often enough to justify re-loading) and surplus ammo is getting scarce or hard to find, where can I buy new shells? I have checked out Marstar, but they are out and EE is out as well. I live in Eastern Ontario and I am dying to shoot this rifle.

No. 7.62x54 is an entirely different round. The round your thinking of that is sometimes interchangable with .308 is 7.62x51mm nato

Hi

I don't know how close you are to the border or what the "bring back" rules are. That said, we are swimming in ex-Eastern Block mil surplus 7.62x5R ammo down here in the US. It's cheap, corrosive and modestly accurate.

The other alternative is to reload. That will give you better accuracy, low cost, and a constant supply. A batch of about 50 pieces of brass should keep you running for quite a while. Bullets, powder and primers are the same as would be used on a .303.

Many choices ....

You can pick it up at gun shows. I'll bet you there will be some at the Perth gun show.

Buy a box of boxer primed shells and a lee loader in 7.62x54r. Both should set you back no more than $60.

Hey Bob....

Thanks! I am actually only about an hour from upstate NY, so maybe I will do that.

Since I have a sporterized 303, maybe reloading is the way to go for me. I can kill two birds with one stone.

Cheers!

I think I might do that, thanks! When is the Perth show? I am in Eastern Ontario and I have been wondering where/when the next show would be.

Hi

Be very sure to check out the rules. We have some *really* strange ones these days. Spending the next three years in Leavenworth Kansas with no air conditioning is not anybody's idea of a good time :D :D :D

Stick with Norma or Igman brass, the Sellor and Bellot brass is very thin in the neck and doesn't seat the bullet in the neck very tight after being resized.

I will. I have colleagues that work at CBSA (Canada Border Services Agency) who can get me all of the details. I don't think the difficulty is on my end, I think the danger lies with yours. I have read there is an export form out there.

Hi

I'm pretty sure that we are the problem in this case.

Bob

Tradeex has some

Spoke with Anthony at Tradeex, he said that if required, he'll hand pick a nice bore for me. Guess what I'm ordering tomorrow. :)

With a scope mount. From them.

:) :)

Now as long as SIR has ammo...
