Just bought a Ross MkII** without an enlarged chamber. Full length resized brass though Lee dies does not size down towards the rim enough, and the brass brass is so close to chambering, but doesn't fully chamber. Scuffs are around the base of the brass, about 1/8" up from the rim. Any suggestions? Would hate to buy a custom FL resize die just to size a little closer to the rim.

STart with new brass that already has a narrower base. it will not be easy to beat a Lee FL sizer to return to min spec.

If you can measure the diameter of the sized case and guess what you might need, I will measure some new brass and see if that will solve the issue.

PM or email ... Thanks

I agree with Mystic Precision, and I know from past experience that Prvi Partizan and some military cases will have larger base diameters.

Below, both cases were fired in the same No.4 Enfield rifle, the Prvi case on the left has a thicker rim, a larger base diameter and .010 thicker in the base web area. The HXP case has a smaller base diameter and a thinner case wall. And most American made cases have a smaller base diameter and closer to minimum SAAMI dimensions.

Thanks for the picture! Super evident now!

I ponied up and bought some virgin Hornady brass. Winchester stuff wouldn’t chamber. Hornady stuff is slightly tighter and chambers perfectly. Don’t know why I didn’t think of it before! I will have to file down my PPU brass if I want to use it though. Visibly larger at the base.

Be careful, .303 brass ususally have thin walls down to the head and it is delicate to reduce only said head without weakening the case.

Is this with all your brass or just some pieces? A piece of brass can become distorted - I toss those when they don't fit after full sizing.

^^This^^. And where will you find .303 Ross dies? You barrel does say .303 Ross like my m10, right? I run factory through my m10 and then reload the brass. I could reuse my m10 brass for any of my Enfields, EALs, Ruger no 1, Winchester 1875, p17 and patern 14s but not the other way around.

No .303 Ross dies. Regular .303 brit dies. This is the only rifle I have in .303 brit anymore so I don't have to worry about sharing brass. It is not stamped with any caliber markings at all. I purchased some Hornady virgin brass and it solved the problem.

I have a 1910 Ross, 303 British. I had it rebarrelled with a McGowen, contoured the same as the
original barrel. It's chamber now is quite snug, but so far, with a very few exceptions, I have been
able to size all my 1-F brass sufficiently to chamber in this barrel. It is very accurate as well.
Additional bonus: I can load it safely with 308 Winchester loads, for similar velocities. I love my
Ross. Dave.
