Spent the morning on the range testing SK ammo.

Today's targets. Photo one is 50 yards 5x5 group. Smallest group was 8.687mm (14.287 mm raw) with biathlon. Averages were 13.75 mm Biathlon, 17.25mm std plus and 14.4mm match. If I exclude the obvious flyers/shooter errors, all three end up sub 1/2 at 50. Measurement on tgt are raw. The actual smallest and average are adjusted to center to center measurement.

Now second tgt was at 100 yards and the std plus did amazing, it ended up grouping 12.656mm which is 1/2 Inch or 1/2 MOA at 100. Could not remember if the last tgt was Biathlon or flatnose basic

Although sample size is small, I will need to investigate further the Std plus. It has potential and was the cheapest ...Bonus

I've had good luck with the Std+ as my "good" ammo in my 455. I think the rifle match is supposed to be basically the same thing, but more consistent.

The flat nose is listed as a short range round, I used to use the sk std+ then I shot it at 200, had about 10
Inches of vertical spread

way too much choices, for now I most likely will try std+, Flatnose match. Maybe rifle match but that's it, I need to develop my dope chart and playing with so many different type I can't keep up.

Btw I have tried Eley tenex, Lapua Midas, lapua polar, lapua centre, Sk Flatnose basic, Sk rifle match, Sk Flatnose match, sk biathlon. Sk std+ , Eley Remington match, Eley Remington target, Eley Remington club, CCI Std vel, CCI Sub, CCI mini mag, federal bulk. Federal gold medal target, browning hpr, sellier & Belliot, Aguila std vel, Aguila sub, blazer, American eagle, Winchester. I have tried all of these in an attempt to acheive the sub moa at 50 challenge. In the end I can report that my gun can shoot sub MOA with just about any ammo except the cheap stuff ie CCI, Federal, Aguilla, S&B, Federal, Winchester etc. I have the data on all these and now realize that gun and ammo are fine, it's me who can't string 5 sub moa group at 50 in a row.

So now I am changing my approach and will concentrate on getting my accurate dope for up to 400m but I can no longer screw around with every brand of ammo out there so I will pick from those that are better the. The average at 50 and see how it goes

I have had similar results with my 453zkm just slightly wider groups at 100m with federal white box. Occasionally i have trouble repeating the elevation exactly with the iron sights so get some verticle stringing but those groups dont seem to justify the price of the premium ammo given the results i see.

It may be worth keeping in mind that not all the ammo that has a particular name on the box will shoot similarly with a particular rifle. There can be considerable variation from one lot to the next. To illustrate, I recently purchased some Center X ammo. When I tested it in three different rifles that have each shot other Center X very well, this particular lot was very disappointing. It had an unusually high number of fliers, more than a community newspaper or a pilots' club. It would not have met the "1/2 inch challenge" in this forum. This can be true for any make of ammo because not all lots of the same variety shoot equally well with the same rifle. As a result it is not always possible to find an ammo brand or variety "your rifle likes."

Another point to note is that sometimes it is possible to have five rounds of ammo from a box of normally middling ammo such as SK Standard Plus or SK Rifle Match all go through the same hole. The next five, or ten, or twenty-five may not shoot so well. What this means is that a box of ammo can have some very consistent rounds but the whole box may not be equally consistent. This underscores the difficulty of assessing the relative accuracy of such ammo. Ammo such as SK Standard Plus will likely have more fliers than SK Rifle Match, but both usually have more than the next variety up the ladder. At the same time, there's no guarantee that more expensive ammo will not have fliers at all -- even though we may expect it to be relatively flier-free.

From a practical perspective what this means for many shooters is that they may often get results that are tantalizingly good -- except for a group or two that has strays. This will be amplified all the more with rifles that have middling barrels as barrels are the basis for the rifle's accuracy. Some barrels that come off mass production lines may be inherently more susceptible to throw fliers than barrels that are made to more exacting standards. That is not to say that those mass production barrels are incapable of producing small groups, but rather that they have a greater challenge in producing many of them and doing it consecutively.

Agreed, I don’t blame you for not wanting to try any more different types, I have seen all your detailed charts you have made after your range outings, they’re awesome.

The SK Biathlon shoots really well! I may have to try it in my 455! ( if I can find it nearby)

Hirsh precision in Lake Echo has some if memory serves me right

I use SK STD+ in my Walther SSP for Bullseye shooting. Works great.

Only problem is there are only a couple places that sell it and they never put it on sale, even by the case

Keep in mind guys that when evaluating accuracy in a mag fed rifle, bullets can get damaged during the feed and that can cause the flyers. Sharp edges anywhere can shave the round.

If you single feed the bullets you can better isolate if its the ammo itself or handling damage between the box and chamber.
