I'm going to be in Edmonton from July 2 - 9 and I'm trying to locate any nearby places to get in a round or 2 of skeet. Can anyone give me some names or websites of clubs?

Thanks.

The Edmonton gun club on the airport property is a trap club, with a dozen ATA fields. It is a very nice club with facilities for RV's. They have one lonely skeet field at the far end. I have never seen it in use.

Yes, we are being evicted. Replacement land is actively being sought, but none has been found as of yet. A year of downtime is expected.

Jukkabev has plenty of time to enjoy the skeet fields.

Thanks Sharptail.

Looks like a fine club! I was going to be bringing my own gun until I saw I was flying Air Canada which has their lame $50 charge for firearms, so I'll be renting a gun from the club when I get there now.

Does the club rent any O/U's or just pumps and semis?

Also, do you know if they limit the # of rentals at a time. I'd like to take some other people to the club but I'm the only one with a PAL in the group.

Strathcona range has mostly Browning Citori U/O's and a few Remington autos. I don't see a problem as long as you (the renter) have a PAL. Keep the group small enough so that "direct supervision" is maintained.

Call Mr. Brad Best at (780) 944-7538 and inform him of the size of your group and when you intend to shoot. He can then ensure that rental guns and a trap boy are available. Brad is a gun nut (1,000 yd. shooter) and easy to deal with.

Call before you go, for sure. I don't know what the current policy is, but I do know that the previous manager wouldn't allow the club guns to go out except with members.

As you say, Brad is easy to get along with, he may bend that rule or ignore it altogether.

I spoke with Brad and one of the directors today. Non members with a PAL can rent guns. Club policy allows for no more than 2 non licensed shooters for each PAL holder. Jukkabev, this could present a problem if you bring 3 or more newbies. Finding a second PAL holder would be advisable.

Sharptail,

Thanks for inquiring about this. I'll try and track down someone else with a PAL or I guess I'll have to limit the number of guests I bring.

Thanks again for looking into this, much appreciated.

So I finally made it out to the Strathcona club on Friday afternoon. As mentioned, Brad is a great guy and easy to get along with. I was bummed out by the condition of the skeet/trap fields. The place wreaks of a once government funded venue that has been left to rot. No buckets to dispose of hulls, just leave em on the field and it seems that nobody is responsible to pickup your own hulls so the field is just littered. It's a shame that the government will be bulldozing the land to install soccer fields.

The wind was really acting up and whipping the high house clay and really slowing down the low house clay. All in all, still a good time.

Jukkabev, I am glad to hear that you made it to the club. I wish I had known, I was one of the people over on the international trap field that afternoon.

I have forwarded the contents of your post to the board of directors. I have railed for some time about the hulls on the trap & skeet fields. It is club policy that any hull that hits the ground is property of the club, and it is the job of the trap boys (under the direction of the manager) to rake up the hulls. Somehow that job has been put on back burner as of late, there is always something "more important" to do. The skeet houses need a general sprucing up, but they are not going to get it. Eviction notices have a way of playing havoc with maintenance schedules.

Strathcona range is usually windy to one degree or another. Two time world champion John Primrose once said that if you can shoot at Strathcona, you can shoot anywhere. I am pleased that overall you had a good time.
