This week we will be working on changing gears, big targets, small targets, multiple rounds on each. This is going to mean a higher round count than the last couple weeks. We’ll be doing 3 mags per string at least, so the more mags the better. Reloads are going to be a part of this too obviously, so dry fire dry fire dry fire everyone.
The SIRT order is coming together well, so far the price is $379 but I’m hoping the price will get better as more people jump in. Shipping will be much cheaper so we’ll be saving there. Cut off for this group buy is going to be next Monday night. So if you want one, please email me with SIRT in the subject line. These guns are a great training tool and in this ammo environment worth even more. Are they expensive? Yup, but just from watching Peter on Friday night, someone who hasn’t shot in months, but has dry fire trained with the SIRT instead, I’d say the price is worth it.
Please don’t forget to check out our sponsors, there are some great deals out there right now if you’re looking for a new gun, ammo, or reloading supplies. If you haven’t joined the NFA, get on it, we need more people to join our pro gun organizations if we really want to keep our guns. The fight is never ending and we need everyone’s support to help keep up our end.
CJ will be coming out this Saturday to take custom molds for the hearing protection. We’ll be there early for this so it won’t interfere too much with shooting. Depending on what you order the cost will be around $100 for a set, I also really recommend the Bluetooth headset as well. And… if you are an audiophile I can tell you the custom headphones are even better. I don’t need to turn my MP3 player up anywhere near as loud before, and the custom fit means no outside noise gets in.
See you Saturday,

Rob

This week we will be meeting on Friday night at 7pm . We are going to be working on draws and cadence. This will involve multiple targets at various heights and distances. Again, depending on the group and group size, we’ll try to get some movement worked in as well.

We’ll be shooting this Friday at 7pm. To start with we will be working on drawing, drawing, drawing, the single most over practiced skill next to doing “double taps”. So why will we be practicing it? Because it is important, and we need to get it done right before we move on to other subjects. That doesn’t mean we’ll be leaving any of the other fundamentals out, we’ll be focusing on them too, but the draw is going to be our main focus. Once we’ve done that until we are all perfect… we’ll be doing movement drills, forward, back, angular, sideways and maybe even walking on our hands (ok if any of you can do that I’ll be impressed).

SIRT pistols, where are they????? On their way from Toronto. Canada Customs decided to keep them for 6 extra days before clearing them. Hopefully they’ll be here Friday. Again, if you were on the list I’ll email you if they do show up so you can come collect them.

Emergency medical, finally have a date booked. August 10th and 11th (Saturday and Sunday). This will be a 9hr course each day (2 separate classes) we need a minimum of 15 students each day for this class for it to happen. There will be two instructors minimum, with plenty of hands on, in fact a lot of hands on, and scenario training as well. Bring, or wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, torn, cut and covered in fake blood. Most penetrating injuries are not immediately life-threatening. However, there are some injuries where death before the arrival of EMS is almost assured if not managed correctly and rapidly. If such injuries occur to yourself or another during an ongoing fight, recognition and concise management of the injuries becomes critical.

This course is designed to give you the knowledge and skill necessary to identify and manage those immediately life-threatening injuries, whether they occur to you or another individual, while you are still engaged in the violent attack. The following is a description from their site http://www.insightstraining.com/view_course.asp?courseID=11 what they don’t mention in the link is that this also covers Blast wounds, something that should be at the forefront of everyone’s mind these days. Cost is $250USD and a certificate for those who successfully complete the course will be presented. This course is suitable for increment training for you LEOs on the list. Please see their website for instructor info. Registration will be directly through Insights. Please let me know if you plan on attending.

Students will take turns role-playing the casualty, and as such they will have simulated wounds applied and fake theatrical blood will be used (which can lightly stain skin for a few days).

Subjects Covered:

The true nature of civilian gunshot wounds, their low lethality and realities of their medical management.
How to rapidly determine the relative seriousness of an injury and how that will affect your tactical treatment plan
The concept of “care under fire” and how it differs from a non-tactical medical situation
Techniques for moving casualties to a safer environment
Basic airway and ventilation assessment and management within a tactical setting
Assessment and management of bleeding and shock
Assessment and management of penetrating and blunt trauma
How to prepare a tactical first aid kit that will dramatically increase your treatment capabilities
Prerequisites:

None
Required Equipment:

Expendable clothing that may be permanently stained with fake blood; Expendable running shorts / sports bra to wear under clothing when role playing the casualty

This Tuesday night (tonight June 18th) we’ll be doing an IPSC practice night on range 5 and maybe range 4 if enough people show up. Brennan is unable to make the night for Steel, so we’ll have fun while he’s off. Saturday’s club match was awesome, massive thanks to all those who made it out. Great, simple stages, with help from everyone, made the day a breeze. Hopefully we’ll have scores this week, but the whole, Score on our Phones, thing kinda fell apart before we even started. Once we have results I’ll post them and notify the winners of their prizes. We’re hoping to do a couple more of these before the summer’s out, so keep your email open. If you are interested in more IPSC practice please let me know, myself, Tim, Brennan and others often go down on weeknights or weekends and setup stages on Range 5 and the more who come the merrier.

Slow, but fun. Was good to be out.

Cheers,

Rob

That was a great session!

I threw about 1.5kg of lead downrange and learned a LOT. No surprise that I realize how far I have to go.
We had a full group of guys. I was definitely the newest but didn't feel uncomfortable because of how slow/inaccurate/etc I was.

Brings more weight to the phrase "The best gun is the one you use"

From Rob:

This week we will be meeting at 7pm and working on a variety of skills, including, shooting on the move, strong hand and weak hand shooting and possibly malfunction clearances.

As noted above, I lost mag 9 sometime in the last week. Most likely it was on Tuesday night. If you could please check you gear to see if it ended up in with your mags it would be much appreciated.

Skills and Drills this week, what are we doing? It’s secret, can’t tell you anymore than that. No it’s not some big ass tactical squirrel thing where I have you running through a group of people shooting at targets, but I don’t want to give it away. Will it be earth shattering? Nope. Will it challenge you? Yup. So come out and see how you do. We’ll be opening the doors at 7pm.

also I love that his name made a face last post lol

Rob is doing a class this Friday based on the attendees experience so everyone come out!

I'd recommend pushing him to teach shooting around a barricade as I noted it in a lot of people at my last match as something frequently done very very very wrong

wicked class tonight down on range 4. Lots of moving and shooting. I know everyone was sweating after the one series we did, well I know I was for sure!

Beating Brennan to the punch, this weeks S&D mailer below

Hey hey hey, how YOU doin?????? This week we will be continuing our gaming skills, more moving and shooting, cadence and long distance shots. These are all things your are going to run into at the IPSC Provincials. We'll have both steel and paper out on Range 5 (or 4 if it's not occupied). If the weather doesn't cooperate we'll go indoor and work on most of the same skills.

If you aren't a gamer (yet) or never intend to be one, don't let what we are doing deter you from coming out, the pistol skills we'll be working on are beneficial to all pistol shooters, not just gamers. It's also a chance for you to see where you are at when run under a timer. This is the only way to induce stress that doesn't include you actually getting attacked, well outside of Sims that is.

There is still some of that 223 available, so if you are looking for some, click on last weeks post and check it out, then let me know if you are interested so I can pass the contact info onto you.

Some of you may have heard about the recent arrest back east of a Canadian who mail ordered an AR15 upper to his US mail box. Being that we live so close the border I hope no one out here tries that. Saving a few bucks isn't a good enough reason to risk getting sent to GITMO. Shop at our local dealers, or use proper importers to get your gear. You risk your purchase, your car and your freedom plus a huge fine by trying to do it.

We are going to be doing a run of ActiveShooter/Skills and Drills/Shooter Ready T-shirts pretty quick. If you'd like one please let me know the size so we can get our pricing together. Later in the year we will also be doing shooting jerseys (the fancy ones) but the T-shirts will be suitable for both shooting in and going out and pissing off liberals. How can you go wrong?

If you are an IPSC BC member please plan on attending the AGM at the Provincials this year, beyond the stupidity surrounding me it sounds like it should be an interesting AGM. Whatever your opinion is on any of the subjects raised, you need to be there and vote. IPSC is run by those who show up, and the more people who show up, the less work there is. In case you haven't noticed it's always the same people organizing stuff, doing the work, running the matches etc, people get burned out. So show up to the meeting if only to thank those who do all the hard work and support them for doing it.

Out,

Rob

(if any of you are planning on smuggling back any AR parts consider a few of these...)

(obviously I'm kidding about the smuggling part)

Thinking of coming out this Friday if someone would be so kind to lend me a Glock holster for the night. I'll be leaving Canada for a long while and would like to shoot one more time. Don't really want to research and buy a holster for just one night lol.

Unfortunately I haven't been buying ammo and thus haven't practiced much since the last time I was at Skills and Drills. Still very new with a terrible flinch...

Great seeing you out dude, and watching the progress through the night.

Now,

So, this week we will be continuing our hunt for accuracy. Dot torture will again be featured this week, but not for the whole night, we'll be moving onto other targets as the night progresses and different distances. Of course the fundamentals will be closely scrutinized, draw, grip, mount, sight alignment, sight picture, trigger press and follow through. The fun starts at 7pm.

A number of you have been asking for this, so the call was made and he's in for it. That's right, Doodie Project MFCEO himself, internet #### disturber, and oh, US IPSC and USPSA Nationals Production Champion, Ben Stoeger has agreed to come to our little range and teach a class. This will be an IPSC/USPSA centric class and will be in either February or March (dates still being determined). Cost will be $400 and there are only 11 slots left. If you are interested you need to let me know ASAP. Ben is an amazing shooter, in case you haven't noticed, and a rising start in the instructional arena. He is a no bull#### guy as well, so if he spots you screwing up, he'll tell you, but he'll also tell you how to fix it and why. He has two instructional books out already and probably another in the works. He is also producing some neat kit, like his 100 round case gauge http://www.benstoegerproshop.com/100-Hole-9mm-Chamber-Checker-Cartridge-Case-Gauge-p/cg9-100.htm (I've already ordered mine). Ben rose to fame shooting a Beretta Elite II (remind you of anyone) before finally moving on to the Tanfoglio Stock II (hmm this sounds so familiar, I expect he'll be shooting a Shadow soon...). He placed 2nd at the World Shoot and has captured a ton of titles in the USA. This will be a class you won't want to miss if you are serious about your game. Being that 2014 is the year of the World Shoot in Florida, this class has the possibility of really improving your standing if you attend the WS. Again, let me know ASAP. Money will be required up front, and no spots will be held for last minute drop outs (you know who you are).

This weekend we've got the Pumpkin Shoot at AFGC, starting at 10am and costing only $2 a pumpkin (ours or yours). It's on range 3 and is open to all calibers of guns, from the smallest to the biggest. So bring your boomers and your plinkers and lets annihilate some pumpkins! Hear Smart https://www.hearsmartsolutions.com/ will be on sight taking impressions if you want to get a set of custom molded ear plugs made

I've got a new toy coming in soon, and can hardly wait, http://www.tachyoninc.com/sportshooting.html these are the new game in town and everyone is using them over in Europe. Lighter and easier to use than a GoPro, with the same quality of video, at much lower cost. If you are serious about training you know video is important, jump in and get one now so you can watch yourself all winter long and practice for next season. They are also big supporters of the shooting sports (check their home page) so supporting them is supporting us! If 10 of us can get together and do a group buy we'll also save on the shipping, I'm willing to organize this even though I've already ordered mine. Again, you know the drill, let me know and I'll start taking names.

TACHYON OPS HD: Good for any weather; Protection from snow, rain or dust (recommend to use); 5+ hours internal battery charge; Possible to use with Micro SD card to 64GB (with 4GB you will have about 1 hour of video). Micro SD card NOT included. Very comfortable (perfect clip for baseball cap or peak mount); Easy to use (one button, no wires); Weight 48grams. I'd like to throw a big thanks out to Murray Gardner www.mdgardner.com for running the IPSC Black Badge courses at Abbotsford. Since my banishment last year he has really stepped in to fill that hole. It's much appreciated. Not only is Murray a great instructor he's also a great source for IPSC and other shooting gear. Check him out.

As always, play safe

Rob

I thought I would just add to this thread rather than start a new one as it has quite a bit of info already.

I went out to my first skills and drills last night in Abbotsford and just wanted to say thanks to Rob. I strongly suggest anyone looking to improve their pistol shooting make an effort to go to a class. It is an incredible value for $20 and Rob will spend the time helping you improve; I will certainly make an effort to come out to more of these as life permits! I was left with a lot of new information and skills I can practice with dry fire.

Thanks again!

PS, Rob, still feel that burn down the arm from actually gripping the pistol properly now!

Thanks for the write up dude. It's always good to see new shooters out and learning.
And yeah, I still remember the burn. It goes away after awhile. lol

so because rob did a terrible job of explaining it in his email, I'll have a GP X-calibur (provided for review by David Copping, its his match gun) there and since I've got my 500 rounds through it if someone wants to run it all night like they would their regular gun I have a holster and 5 mags you can use; just bring 9mm ammo.

the mags should fit shadow pouches so if you don't have adjustable pouches or what not you should be able to use robs spare belt for pouches
