skitto dope

Yes the flies are starting to show but not biteing yet.
Muskol is what I find the best.Still have a few bottles of the original its alot stronger than there newer stuff.DAN>>>

Oh man, this reminds me of working in the Parsnip river swamps building the railroad into Tumbler Ridge in the early 80s. I'd seen bad bugs before but nothing like it there! We used 'Repex' which worked pretty good. It also ate the plastic off of my engineering pencil and caused a crew mate to have swelling the size of baseballs inside his elbows where the sweat/bug dope irritated his skin causing some nasty sores. Not very nice stuff.

The best stuff that won't kill you though is "Avon Skin So Soft" which is supposed to be a lady's lotion I believe?? Anyway track down the Avon Lady, I s**t you not this stuff works very well and won't beat you up.

DEET. Highest concentration that you can find/stand.

Wear light coloured clothing and have your field partners wear dark blue denim. Stand beside your field partners and enjoy!

I haven't used fly dope for the last 10 years of field work. I use a bug jacket these days.

Deet Deet and more Deet, that's what works the BEST. If you're using Deet in Muskoil, be VERY carefull of what you touch as this stuff melts plastics ... no treat for the finish on your firearm either, so watch out how you use it.

"Skin so Soft" and other non-Deet products simply do not provide the same protection, period. Some people are concerned that Deet can affect your central nervous system and indeed that is true for some .. but a very small percentage. Given the issues that can come from bites, why chance products that may not work as well as what is proven to be the best .. Deet Deet and more Deet,

Well when working in the bush, I used to use chain oil on the brim of my hard hat and any flies that were bouncing off my face usually got stuck or added some oil to the wings if the bug brushed up against that area, every hour or so, I would wipe the millions of bugs off and apply more chain oil, this really helped to keep those little bugs out of the face and less to fly in my mouth, for the rest of me I would wear long sleeves and pants.
Avon Skin So Soft is the ticket, not doubts in my mind, works great. Don't knock it till you try it.

Another thing that I found out working in camp is it pays to not shower very much and eat a lot of garlic. And it doesn't hurt to get some summer students on the crew fresh from the city that shower every morning. The bugs just loved them ;)

Put on the "Skin So Soft" liberally first ... then follow up with Muskol.

The pump-spray (non-aerosol ) or liquid stuff seems to have higher concentrations. Amway D15 seems to work pretty good too.

Working up some old farm fields & clearing brush in Parry Sound District... May & June, generally ain't much fun with the Black Plague buzz-bombing continuosly. Seen some so big they were trying to breed the Ravens !!!

My Dad swears up and down by D15 from Amway. My personal favourite is Deep Woods Off for Sportsmen. It must be the one in the blue can. When I go canoeing or camping in really bad fly country, I bring two cans in case one gets lost. I hose down with the stuff.

I've always used the high % deet with good results. Although I haven't tried it yet, alot of people are praising the Thermacell system. I'll be giving it a go this summer for effectiveness. If it pans out I'll be using it early fall for hunting as it's odorless  .

I saw some stuff at a trade show that was made from catnip and emu oil plus some other natural stuff from what i have heard it works good.I havn't tried it around bugs but I smelled it and it doesn't smell bad.hardly smells at all.its called natures defence.they make some for pets too.
