:)I have a ST-200 rear sight coming soon for my SKS to aid these rheumy old eyes. I don't anticipate a problem mounting it but understand that the removal of the the standard rear sight is not easy.

Any suggestions to guide me? And what tools?

Thanks,

SOF

First remove the stock and hand gaurd so you wont damage the wood.
Then with a stubby flat tip screwdriver and push down on the sight ladder above the axis pin and pull it to the rear. It will have alot of spring pressure so it many take some force.

I've looked very carefully at it, it's disassembled, and I believe that there is a pin, as BJS below states.

On my 1952 Russian, there was a pin that had to be removed. This pin prevented the sight from being pushed down enough to be released.

So, now I will try and get the pin out

Thanks, guys, so now

Dsiwy is right . no pin but i use a standard handle screw driver.

1. lay flat over the leaf and furthest to the front edge of the leaf.
2. hold the screw driver with right hand and press firmly on the shaft of the screwdriver.
3. tilt the screwdriver up a little with a rearward action .

and the sight leaf should pop out .

I just check mine and some of my russians and chinese have the extra pin. So like bjs7293 said remove the pin first.

Yes, my Tula has the pin which I took out, I was stopped cold until the later posts got me on track.

Sadly,:( we are at the cottage and I wont have my ST-200 until returning to the city late next week.

Oh, well, patience is said to be a virtue.

Have a good weekend, :)

sks45 gray rear sight leaf, is it pinned?

this is turning out to be one interesting thread .

this is what i noticed :

1. blued leaf . 1950 no pin . from 1951 -1956 are all pinned.

2. gray leaf . all has no pin .

so my 51 blue is pinned and my 51 gray is not.

does anybody have a gray that is pinned?? i wanna find out what happened to all the pinned leaf during refurb .

I have a SKS-56 factory /26\ and /0406\ with the pin and a IZH 54 no pin "blued" and Tula 55/56 with pin "blued"
