We're very to excited to announce that we have the production version of a mount (first seen at the last Thorncliffe Gun Show in Calgary) that allows you to easily and reliably mount a micro-dot reflex optic onto all SKS versions that still allows the use of stripper clips and has a built-in back-up iron sight... introducing the 100% Canadian, SKS Scout Mount from Matador Arms - The Razor!

This lightweight (less than an ounce!) Alberta-made SKS scout mount/rail allows you to extract the most accuracy from your SKS without adding unnecessary weight or bulk to your rifle; allows you to continue using stripper clips; does not require anything to be removed or even moved for full cleaning and still retains a back-up iron sight system in case your reflex sight becomes damaged or loses battery power.

These mounts are in stock and for sale as from today!

Ok, so we have installed one of these beauties on the Major's 1950 Tula and we need to come back to our claim that this Scout Mount weighs less than an ounce - it effectively weighs less than nothing!

...after removing the rear sight leaf, pin and spring we found that those parts weighed 28g - so effectively this scout mount is so light it weighs less than nothing because as it weighs 26g, the rifle weighs 2g less after installation!

Coincidentally, we also carry the micro-dot reflex sights to complement this beautifully machined mount. :)

Got one! They shipped it fast and the mount is so light.

The hardest part of the install was removing the stock sight and spring.

The mount also makes a nicer rear sight than the factory one.

Ahead of BabySeal's report, I can just say that this thing is completely solid once it's installed - there is no movement whatsoever, so it would seem impossible for it to not hold zero.

Two grub/hex screws push down against the part of the receiver that was covered by the rear sight spring. We found that it was easier (and it seemed more mechanically sympathetic) to lever up the rear of the scout mount, as you screw in the first grub screw, in order to get the rail parallel with the top of the bolt - which is easy to see as there is about 0.5mm clearance - awesome engineering! The second grub screw goes in on top of the first, to lock everything in one position. Matador Arms do say that you could use thread locker in their instructions, but we don't think it's at all likely that the screws will move.

Is it just me or does this seem like a blatant rip off of the BC tactical mount that's been available for a few years? And the matador full length rail is a magwedge copy??

Hi Suther

I'm not sure if this is a general question or one for us... we're just humble retailers - questions about design are best left for the manufacturers but I can say that from what we've seen, The Razor does have some unique points such as the sight channel that we've not seen elsewhere.

Regards

Mark

To clarify, this mount is designed for micro-dot reflex sights - there is a list of suitable sights on the description page https://colonelmustard.ca/products/razor-sks-scout-rail-short-picatinny-mount and we are offering a bundle that includes the Razor and a micro-dot: https://colonelmustard.ca/products/razor-sks-scout-mount-auto-green-micro-dot-combo

As a micro-dot will be completely within the length of the Razor, we don't believe it is possible for empty casings to contact the micro-dot. If you want to fit a bigger optic to your SKS, we would recommend the SKS Optics Rail as that includes a built-in shell deflector: https://colonelmustard.ca/products/sks-optics-rail-full-length-weaver-receiver-mount

Can I see picture of 'sight channel' using iron sights please? Very interesting product!

Sorry, for the delay in replying - we checked our records and we don't have that picture, so we spoke to Matador Arms and they don't have that picture either! Matador did say the next time they are doing a photography session they will try to capture that picture. Over to Razor owners - does anyone have a picture that shows the 'iron sights' in use?
