Hi guys,

I am looking for what I believe considered to be an "Range Safe" (according to my gun club) ammunition in 7.62x39 caliber.
The requirements are - not steel cased, lead core. The ultimate "check" for that is the magnet - if it doesn't "stick" then ammo is considered to be "safe" in my gun club.

So, I have tried Mil Surplus (definitely not, since it is steel cased, steel core), Barnaul SP and Sellier and Bellot SP. The last one brass cased, looks like it suppose to have lead core, but it still "sticks" to the magnet.

The ultimate question is: does such ammo exist at all? I mean - not steel cased, lead core? If so, does anyone know where to find/buy it?

Thanks.

PPU Privi Partizan, Sellier & Bellot, American Eagle, Winchester, Hornady SST (steel cased with lead/copper bullet

Barnual, LCW(Canada Ammo Dominion brand), TulAmmo, Wolf... Most modern foactory bulk ammo may be steel cased, but the bullet jacketed is "bi-metal", which is copper coated mild steel with a lead core. Which is "range safe", just some ranges are over anal and don't like SKS owners.

This ammo does exist but you'll be paying at least $1/round. You can get federal or Winchester 123gr. Fmj that is range safe but they are around 20-23.00 for a box of 20

I have checked the Barnaul and S&B -> they have some metal in them, so the magnet test fails (((
But anyway you are probably right - my range is "over anal" as you said (((

Hey, thanks for the reply. I know that I will pay at least twice what I paid for the MilSup. But there is nothing I can do - either pay more and shoot at my range or buys MilSup and go... pretty much to the Silverdale only (((

Btw, did you talk about this one: http://www.winchester.com/Products/rifle-ammunition/Performance/Super-X-rifle/Pages/X76239.aspx ?
Are you sure it is what I need?

The bullet jacketed "bi-metal" is not quite safe for an indoor range and is completely forbidden on my indoor range. Any ammo having bullets (NOT CASES) that are attracted to magnets are absolutely forbidden on my range. To the best of my knowledge, most of indoor ranges in Ontario have that policy.
I am also a member of an outdoor range where I can shoot my milsurp.

That should be unless they've changed it. Bring a magnet with you to check before buying
