So I have read the SKS posts, and I finally got my SKS and ammo, I cleaned all the preservative out of it, so i am ready to head out to the range to shoot it. But, I was wondering where or if I should oil. Most people say to keep the gas system dry, but what about other places, such as the bolt and bolt carrier track? I have read posts about keeping the whole rifle dry. So, what should I do? Also, after shooting, what should I clean? should I just do the gas system and barrel, or the whole rifle? Thanks.

I use a little high heat wheel bareing grease on the all the contact point's. They are;
Bolt Carrier race ways
Bolt race way
Hammer
Then I spray lithium grease on the mains spring that goes inside the bolt carrier. Also when appling the grease use this terminology, "A Little Goes A Long Way".
I got luckly when I purchase my sks from T.E.C. I got an all matching, un-referb, 1950 beauty and I want it to last a real long time.

OK, so i went and got some lithium grease (its the only small tubes they had) and I also picked up some graphite because it was right there and I thought "what the hell, why not". Is the lithium grease good for the bolt raceways, hammer, ect? or would it do some bad stuff? I am not familiar with Lithium grease and its properties. What about graphite? At work we use "graphoil", a mixture of graphite and oil. We use it to lube and pack valves and anything under a great deal of stress and heat (Its a Steam Locomotive so there is a lot of heat involved).

Lithuim grease is fine. Gas system dry, a little grease on contact points. If you run the entire gun dry it may well last longer than you. But grease is cheap so go for it.
