Hi all,

Bought a 1952 Russian SKS along with a ProMag Archangel LVX SKS Magazine. After looking at some videos on YouTube, it seemed like the mag would fit flush with the SKS but did not turn out as expected.

Does anyone have any tips on making it fit in the stock? Should I file off a bit from the back of the mag catch?

Thanks all in advance!

sometimes with aftermarket SKS mags you do need to file off a bit of the stock, safe enough but I wouldn't personally recommend it because it's a piece of history. Yeah yeah I know there are like 15 million of them, that's just my own opinion.

I'm not really concerned with filing off the stock a bit, as it doesn't have matching numbers or anything that really makes it a "collectors" piece.

My concern is filing off the wrong parts and potentially rendering the gun useless because mags wouldn't fit or etc.

Which parts of the stock in the magazine well would you suggest me to sand? The side panels? The back panel?

The stock has noting to do with retaining the mag. You can lock a mag with no stock on the rifle. If part of the stock is in the way, feel free to file. I'd actually suggest removing the stock from the rifle, and check the mag with the detached stock to see that way if you can figure out where the stock is binding the mag. If it even is the stock that is the problem.

Sounds like a good idea to fit the magazine in without the stock to see where the stock is binding the mag, thanks!
