Island Outfitters just got 30 more, they are $299.99 and come with sling, cleaning kit and usual ammo pouch.

I just went down there to look at the new arrivals. While $299 is pretty steep for an SKS, I figured I would check them out, in case I found a rare gem like a 1949, or an unissued Ishkevsk.
I asked the salesman if they got any SKS from the Ishkevsk arsenal in the new order. He gave me a confused look and said all he knew was that they were Simonov SKS 45. Then I asked if they got in any non-refubs. The salesmans response was that there was no way to tell if the rifle was refurb or not! I explained that there was a refurb stamp on the bolt cover, as well as other ways to tell. He argued that I was wrong so I asked if I could look over the rifles he had in stock. He kind of hmmd and hawed and said they were in the back, and made me feel like I was inconveniencing him for asking to see the other rifles. So I walked out, and will never shop there again, at least not until they get some competent and friendly staff in there.
Just wanted to share my experience with other Victoria CGNers so they don't waste their time dealing with those guys.

my rant about liberal outfitters
went in, asked guy ''have any 762nato?'', he said, "we have czech 762 russian'', i reply "i am looking for 762NA.T.O." guy replies with attitude and uninterested in helping me "we only have czech 762 in the green boxes"
"Thats not 762 nato",
again with attitude "thats what i said"
i left and went to pullens where i had coffee, cookies and bought some bullets and powder

I'm glad to hear I am not the only one that gets treated like $HIT there. I have heard good things about Pullens. Where are they located?

Hey that sucks, but what were you hoping for? All crates to be opened and each one pulled out and brought out front so you could pick one you like from a $50 to $60 profit gun? I agree the guy should have been nicer, you should have spoke to a manager and complained. This one incident put their whole staff at fault? You will never shop there again?
####ty service has no excuse, but I think many of us get carried away (me included) when everything does not go our way. My 2 cents.

Why should he have to go to a manger? At that price for refurbs there's very good profit in them. So they better have good customer service to flog them.

I don't think I was out of line to ask to see some other rifles before I made a purchase. They only got 30 rifles in, (thats what 2 crates?) they had only about a dozen left, so its not like I expected buddy to get out a crowbar and pry open 10 cases for me.
The whole point of supporting your local gunshop, rather than WSS or SIR or any of the other mailorder outfits, is the customer service and the ability to check out different products and compare before you make a purchase. I will gladly pay a few dollars more for good service and friendly staff that appreciates my business. Since IO has neither, I will take my $2-3000yr hunting budget and spend it elsewhere.

There's one older guy with a beard there that is good to deal with. He knows his stuff, is professional and friendly. In my experience, the younger guys are there to sit in a room with guns, and god help you if you interefere with that by asking them a question.

I wanted to support local stores so went there every two weeks looking for the reloading equiptment I needed for over 3 months, then finally ordered it. Called them for another month after, then decided that pullens really was my one and only gun store.

Pullens for the win!!! (by the way, I bought everything I was looking for at Pullens the first day I went, got complementary coffee and cookies, got to handle and compare pistols, shot the breeze with the other guys, got a lead on a rifle I'd been looking for forever, and have been going back ever since. Pullens is the one place I have absolutely no qualms about blowing my miniscule budget in.)

As an Island CGNer I will say that Island outfitters is very hit and miss for customer service in the gun room. It does depend on who you get but most of them have the attitude that you are inconviencing them if you ask too many questions. That plus their prices accross the board are INSANE makes it very tough to support them as a local gunshop (of which we have only two choices). Pullens has a much more friendly atmosphere and more knowledgeable staff.

OK, fellas enough of the customer service post . lets get back to topic , surely someone must have bought a SKS45 from them cos this is the second batch they got .

After what happened in Victoria several years ago, I would never expect any gunstore here to allow a customer to have free rein over a stack of rifles, or ever allow a customer behind the counter,

Knowing the reality of retail, I would not expect to have a saleman bring out 50 low mark-up rifles one at a time, for a customer to inspect.

I'm sure there are lots of customers that know more about guns than the young people employed behind the counter, as I am sure those same employees know a lot more about putting in a real days work for what they're payed than some of those know it all customers.

It seems that this whole deal gets revisited over and over... Get real.. It is one idiot in that pack that is outstandingly UNHELPFUL.. Al Page is a local legend... and has the knowledge of an encyclopaedia of weaponry. If you can get to speak with him and wait your turn all is good.. Lucky is helpful beyond expectation and if he does not know something he sources you the information... The SKS thing hit me too... price is fair for something that is in short supply.. and... what would YOU do for $50 markup??? Drive to Vancouver to prove your point??? DUH!!! Go to management!! Otherwise they may not know they have a bad a##h oops apple in the bunch... Then things will level out... Pullens... great for the market they service... For you kids out there... For the most part it is the old guys that bring the cookies and donuts there... The shop supplies the coffee.. so when you do go there, bring a bag of cookies or a dozen of those timmies along... Buying a pack of primers and earplugs is NOT supporting your local shop.. Island Outfitters and Pullens both have their place.... and neither of them is Sears whiney pissy customer is always right.. Do your homework before you waste everyone's time... buy some books.... go online and do research.... and once you know everything you will no longer be here!!!!
