WooHoo, received the card from the post office saying my package is in, going to go pick it up tomorrow. I ordered it from SIR Oct.23, so took only a week to get here, not to shabby. Unfortunately I am leaving to go hunting for a week tomorrow, right after I pick it up, and from what you all say, I am expecting it to be crammed full of cosmoline, so I am pretty sure I will not find the time to clean it up to use for this hunting season. Once I figure out how it all comes apart, and get it cleaned up, I will let you know how it looks.

It's not hard to clean the cosmoline off. Just bring your wd40 and clean it in the camp, but make sure the firing pin rattles. Bring some mil surplus ammo with you and test some rounds sight it in in the camp at 50 yards if you camp in the bush. Then use hunting ammo for your hunting. It's easy.

LOL sounds good, but I am more of a sit down and take it easy kind of guy, hate rushing it, I'm just going to wait till I have time to take it all apart, piece by piece, clean it up nice, probably re finish the stock nice, and have a cpl. brews chillaxin as I do it. I'm in no rush, though would have been fun to use it on a cpl. deer drives where you need a real quick shot. Or maybe you can come over tomorrow morning and clean er up for me while I pack my hunting stuff in the car. :p

Cheers!

I used my SKS deer hunting in the bush in Prescott county outside of Ottawa back in the mid 80s. Bagged my 1st buck with it. Its a great bush gun.

Take the metal out of the stock and make sure there's no gaping holes in the barrel.

Wouldn't want to see another one of those.

did you not see his other thread about SKSs ripping the heads off his brass

it seems to do better with milsurp ammo.

Come to think of it, maybe you should take it out of the wood just in case :runaway:

Sks

Just purchased one of these as well from a gun show in Woodstock on Sunday. After arduously cleaning out all of the cosmoline, I took it to the range to try it out. At 100m I was able to achieve about a 3-inch grouping. Not the best, but better than I expected. I was surprised to note that it ejects the brass upward instead of to the side. My empty casings were hitting the ceiling on the 300m covered range. (A good 12 feet above.) Really enjoyed shooting it. A lot of people seem to poop on the SKS, but if you keep in mind what it's for (Plinking) it's a great little carbine.

Happy with mine:D

I find that this rifle requires a shot-gunners stance for good off hand shooting.
Keep the trigger elbow raised to keep a shoulder cup.

The trigger takes a while to get used to also.
In time you will find those groups will shrink.

And yah don't stand under bare light bulbs at the range while using these rifles. :D
