Has anyone ever cut down the barrel of a Russian or Chinese SKS. I didnt think that it would affect the accuacy to much if the barrel was cut just behind the original front site and bayonet lug, and am wondering if anyone has tried, and what the results were. Ive always been a fan of short barrels anyway.

First thing you need to do is make sure you stay over 18.5" long...
After you cut it you will need to recrown the barrel as well
After that it would be interesting to see your change in muzzle velocity if you do cut it...

If you look in the precision threads you will see a lot about barrel harmonics, and muzzle velocities both of which are effected by barrel lengths. So depending on the harmonics you may see an increase in accuracy...

All that being said I have never cut a barrel down in length as I did not want to have to go throw all the grief of installing new front sights and cutting a proper crown

Good points, but you can get scopes and rails for sights that don't require anything stuck on the end of the barrel, and I don't think it's that difficult to recrown a barrel in any case. And I just remembered that my '51 Tula doesn't have a chrome lined bore, so that's not an issue either. Hmmmm.

This should be in red rifle section.

It's just an SKS, take a hacksaw to it and see what happens, worst case you end up buying another cheap rifle for $175.

I don't think cutting 1.5" off the barrel makes a whole lot of sense....

I don't think it is worth it either. If it were the states where you could cut it down to 16" i would say go for it, but an inch and a half would really make no difference. SBR SKSs are ###y. I want this h##ps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3PFI2aBrhY

The SKS in the video is cut down to about 12". I wasn't going that far, just enough to clear off the bayonet lug, nut sure if that would leave a 18.5" barrel or not? I have owned SKS's in the past but presently do not have one yet. Next on the list? Maybe? They are a lot of fun.
