Sks bolt mod ?

The "bolt mod" is a must do IMO if u are running detachable mags. I did it carefully back in 2012 with a dremel equipped with a tungsten carbide bit. Guns got 1000s of round thru it and the bolts held up fine. Cant recommend any gunsmiths tho.

I don't see why you would want to, grinding the bolt like that is stupid and dangerous. First off the heat will screw up the temper on it.

I don't believe that you will generate enough heat to have any affect on temper at all. What might be an issue is whether the bolt is surface hardened and you grind away the hard outer layer.

Back in the day when everyone was making sporting rifles out of Mausers of one breed or another and some knock offs, they ground away some to the out surfaces that were hardened. It usually wasn't dangerous but depending on where it was done, it did cause undue wear.

The fellow in the video is fixing something that isn't broken but irritates him, so he's making a micky mouse mod that makes changing out mags much easier and if he's shooting competitively, it may give him a few seconds on his times.

I used an angle grinder and zip disc on mine, no problems after many years and thousands of rounds fired. No need to go to a gunsmith if you're even sort of handy with tools.

I've done a couple of those on my milling machine, using supertanium cutters. Those bolts are quite evenly heat treated and are hard/strong

The people that wanted this done are quite happy with the results and like you, have thousands of rounds through the rifles without a hiccup.

I haven't done that one 'cause it only matters on a 'cold gun'. After being 'emptied' the bolt locks back and I stick another in (I have 6 for my Tapco). For the first mag I just reach up and lock back the H-O 'catch' in the receiver.
At the range a few secs don't matter, but if the Asians invade I'll get the grinder out.

If you're talking about competition matches at the range???????????????
