I recently aquired a Russian SKS and sometimes the bolt does not lock open after the last round has been fired. Anyone have a suggestion as to what might cause this to happen?

Make sure the hold open lug is free to slide in it's tracks and not gummed up with grease, dirt, etc. Also ensure that the tail of the follower is present and not bent.

first, clean the bolt hold area thoroughly , bolt hold may be sticking .

if thats not the problem then did you have a hard time putting 5 rds in the mag, did you have to force it in?

I have the same issue with one of my SKS. All is clean though. I wonder if I need to ever-so-slightly bend the bolt hold upwards?

everything is clean and there has not been an issue getting 5 rounds in. could just be the hold back. that was my first thought but I figured I would check here. thanks for the info.

while it might not help you, maybe someone else will read it and it'll help them.....

some of the IZH pin jobs, they left a messy blob of slag from welding the pin to the follower, which prevents the follower arm from going all the way up, grind the slag off with a dremel, and everything works properly

I had to do that with mine.
