Today I was cleaning my sks after firing 150 rounds yesterday and when i was putting it back together I found this tiny little piece had snapped off the back of the trigger. its the safety catch. Its very small but legally important I'm sure. Question is...now WTF do I do? also I'd add a pic but i see no option to do so

Which part?

SKS parts are fairly cheap and easy to come by.

One of the SKS gurus should be able to lead you in the right direction and if you can't fix it yourself, I'm sure there is someone on here close by to you.

the part #43 in that pic. Sorry I'm new to owning an sks and still learning.

That is the part I surmised that broke and there is absolutely nothing to be sorry about.

Now that we have established what part broke, we just have to locate the spring and get someone close by to help you.

It might help if you put a place close by in the Fraser Valley on your location for others to help.

You don't have to put down your exact location if you feel uncomfortable about that.

Thanks for the help. This part seems harder to find than I thought it'd be.

High Calibre Services in Mission should be able to help you out. They carry all manner of parts and goodies for sks rifles. Best of luck.

I am in Chilliwack......let me see if I can source one cheaply for you.I will look into it tonight when Im done for the day.

Cheers,
Bruce

Wow....two replies while I was typing my offer of assistance....

If they cant help you out in Mission then give me a shout

Bruce

Many SKS don't have that spring, but simply use friction to hold the safety lever in the up position (safety on).
Will your safety lever stay up without that spring in place? I assume that the spring is broken completely and has fallen out?
I wonder if it got broken when you were putting the trigger group back into place? If the safety is not on (up) it takes a lot of force to make the group seat.

As a side point: I don't use the safety for shooting at the range, I load, shoot until empty, show safe by leaving bolt open. No need for safety lever use.

Wow thanks for all the replies. It broke in half. the fork end came out and the other half is stuck in the trigger piece and I can't remove it without taking that all apart. At least that's how it looks to me. I'll try high calibre in mission and see what they say.

Try at the top of the page of military rifles for sale . lots of parts for sale at the top . and if someone has a lot of sks parts posted for sale but not the one your looking for then send them a PM and ask it they have one kicking around. I think someone else mentioned when you take the sks rifle apart rack the action like your loading it and then put the safety on . and leave it on through the whole process . I'm sure you will find the part.and if not and the gun isn't a collector try to source out another trigger group . I have seen them for sale for $50 dollars. let us know how it works out .

Jeepgrl probably isn't allowed on the Equipment Exchange yet, but I think her comments on this thread have demonstrated
that she is worthy of being accepted on the EE, she just needs to apply.

if you cant find it at a site sponser, lever arms will most likely have one
Have you tried negotiating their site? They aren't a company I'd deal with for anything but parts only if I was desperate.Your mileage may vary.

Easiest solution, buy another SKS of the same make/vintage and then you've got an entire set of spare parts on hand for anything else that breaks.

And if you're really worried about needing replacements parts, buy 2!
