Anyone tried this before. I miked some SKS bullets and found that they are .310 and I know that most .303 are .311. I should slug my .303 and see exactly what it is. This question has probalby been asked her before but I searched and couldn't find the answer. The rate of twist might not be able to handle the lighter bullet but for plinking and a cheap source of bullets and powder it would provide if it can be done.

It's true that the 7.62 WP bullet might not fit your bore exactly. But I've done it too, and like CanAm says, it shoots great. I've also done it for .30-'06 and .308, works fine with the included charge.

My real question was to find a cheap source of 30 calibre bullets for my M1 to shoot. I ran out of 30 calibre fmj 150 grn bullets and thought about the case of SKS rounds I have sitting in the corner to do me till I get some more bulelts sent to me. After using the calipers on the bullet it was .310 which is kind of too big in a .308 bore. I haven't slugged the M1 barrel yet but I bet it is close to the .308 and I think I remeber not to go over 1 thou. for non-lead bullets which makes sense with your idea of shooting them with the amount of powder that is in the SKS round because of the increase in pressure you would be safe with a small powder charge.

As a side note, how do you edit the title on here, by accident I posted this twice and I would love to just add a please ignore or delete the other post that is the same message.

I have one P14 that shoots the 123g Honrady's real well, and the other doesn't like them at all. Both bores are like new so I'm guessing the one's diameter is a touch bigger then the other..

Hunter64: check "Del Selin Gunsmith" in Vernon, BC for .30 M1 bullets (do a 411 search or PM me for the number).

The .310 bullets might be a little big for your bore, but as long as the neck of the loaded case is small enough to release the bullet, and the throat is big enough to admit the bullet just seat a touch short to give the bullet a little run, you'll have no problems.
