Hello,
I am some what green to this whole sport but learning and loving it more each day. Looking online I have seen some pretty good deals on SKS
some even come with enough ammo to last me a long while. Is there any large differences between chinese versions and Russian? Also any pros and cons would help as well.

Thank you in Advance

If you take a look at the stickies in the red rifles forum, you'll find more information than you'll know what to do with. The only real difference besides fit, finish and collectibility is Chinese SKS have chrome lined barrels. They are also rougher than the Russian ones. Apart from that, they shoot the same and function the same.

Have to disagree with you on this. While the Chinese military are great shooters, my particular refurb Izzy from Weimajack shoots just as well and the wood / metal finish is noticeably better. Even with a refinished stock, the Chinese military version wouldn't match it.

I do agree with the suggestion to buy both. Nothing wrong with having a backup. I put tech sights on the Izzy and a scope on the Chinese. I do tend to shoot the Chinese more though.

My preference is for the Chinese military ones. Refinish the stock and IMO, they are nicer than the russians I own.

This is my experience as well. Bottom line, they are both very affordable, buy one of each!

Cheers

Have to agree as well you can see and feel the difference in quality the russians are just higher in standard and the chrome bore is a matter of what year you get i dont recall off hand which is which but my 53 izzy is chrome bored
as far as shooting cant go wrong eiether will always go bang no matter the conditions

Mine is a refurb with a laminate but look at the color ,just love it
Eiether way they are all alot of fun
safe shootin

my preferance is russian, I don't own one anymore but if I was to buy another I would just get the cheapest (new/refurb) one I could find, chinese or russian, doesn't matter its an SKS.

Having just handled 2 brand new Chinese Military SKS's at the local gun show, I have to say they were very dissappointing!

Fit and finish is terrible compared to my former Russian SKS.

I was just about to buy one as well, so I am thankful I chose to buy the S&W MP 22 instead. ;)

If I were buying an SKS these days I would be looking at the Laminate stocked options for $20-$30 more.

These were probably the recent junk Factory 625 rifles on the market. They are in piss poor shape overall and not worth what theyre sold for.
